The taiga biome, also known as the boreal forest, is the largest terrestrial biome. Located near mountains and forests in Eurasia and North America, the taiga has very cold winters with snow and warmer, rainy summers where coniferous plants like birch, aspen, larch, alder and red cedar grow. During the short springs and autumns, millions of insects inhabit the taiga, which is also home to fauna such as red foxes, wolverines, river otters, grizzly bears and bobcats.
