2. Redbubble Tagging
A tag can be a word or bunch of words describing an
artwork. It is a search keyword someone might use to find a
design. Tagging is essential in making someone visible and
accessible online. Adding tags to an image makes it easier
for people to find when searching for artwork.
On Redbubble, one can add up to 50 tags to any
artwork. Proper tagging will help bring one’s work to the top
of the search results on Redbubble and in search engines
like Google.
4. Tag Spamming
DON’T: Add irrelevant search words to your tags that has
nothing to do with the term users have searched for. This is
called “tag spamming”. This has the potential to greatly
damage your presence online.
DO: Tag your works with relevant information. Look at the
artwork and tag about the subject matter found within the
image. It can be its content, theme, style or color used.
5. Tag Repetition
DON’T: Repeat yourself.
DO: Aim for a variety of tags.
Ex.: When you already used “dog” as a tag, don’t use another tags like
“doglover”, “dogbuddy”, or “fluffydog” because these may not help that much in
broadening audience and searches. Instead, try tags like “pet” or any relevant
words without including “dog” anymore.
6. Multi-word Tags
DON’T: Use full sentences. Using this method can be wordy
and unnecessary.
DO: Strip a full sentence down. This method gets right to
the point and can help your work to have a better chance of
surfacing at the top of the results.
Ex.: Instead of a tag like “a man is giving money to a beggar”, try using “man,
money, giving, beggar”.
8. 1. Try and aim for at least 3-5 tags, with 10-15 being a good
chunky amount.
2. Ask someone who doesn’t know your images inside and
out for some keywords or phrases that come to mind to
get a good sense of what people notice about your work.
This can help you select “key” tag words to use.
3. Note your tags to use again. Especially if your work is
abstract or has repeated themes, keep a running list of
your favorites to help you hit 15 tags every time.
9. 4. Aim for single word tags when possible, although specific
multi word tags are sometimes good.
5. Make sure to fill out descriptions about each artwork you
upload to Redbubble. Google keeps track of Redbubble
descriptions and sweeps them to help with SEO (search
engine optimization) ranking.
6. Keep updating your content and finding new tags that
describe your work but maybe underused by similar
artworks. Keywords with low competition will give you a
higher chance to be on the first page.
