The Lezginka is a national dance of the peoples of the Caucasus Mountains. It derives its name from the Lezgin people but is also performed by Georgians, Chechens, Ossetians, Circassians, Karachays, Balkars, Abkhazians, Kabardins, Ingush, Mountain Jews, Cossacks, Avars, Dargins, Kumyks, and others in the region. The dance can be performed solo, in couples, or groups. When danced by couples, the man and woman do not touch but the woman dances discreetly around the man as he dances with quick, concise steps, sometimes falling to his knees.
