This document provides a table of 100 emerging technologies categorized into 5 themes: data ecosystems, smart planet, extreme automation, human augmentation, and human-machine interactions. Each technology entry includes the theme, a brief description, examples of organizations working in the area, and estimated timeline. The purpose is to make individuals and institutions aware of potentially disruptive future technologies and stimulate discussion, while noting that other factors like ethics must also be considered when assessing impact. The examples are meant to be illustrative and do not constitute recommendations.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND Human futureUTSAV TIWARI
The document discusses the past, present, and potential future of artificial intelligence and its relationship with humanity. It describes different levels of AI, from weak AI to artificial general intelligence and superintelligence. It outlines both optimistic and pessimistic views of how advanced AI could impact jobs, the economy, society, and human abilities. The document also speculates on possible futures where AI helps solve major problems but may also pose challenges if not developed and applied responsibly.
This document provides an overview of AI ethics. It discusses the hype and fears around AI, noting breakthroughs like AlphaGo defeating Lee Sedol at Go in 2016. While impressive, these achievements also raise concerns about machines potentially outsmarting and controlling humans. However, the document notes that AI is already having a pervasive real-world impact through applications in many domains like transportation, healthcare, education and more. It is embedded invisibly in everyday tools and complex systems.
Will the machines save us or kill us all? – that is the question. While many are thrilled with the latest AI
breakthroughs and dream of a shinning AI-powered world, others, like Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and the late
and legendary Stephen Hawking, expressed concerns about the evolution of the machines and warned about an
apocalyptic future.

There's plenty of talk about corporate innovation, but little about its dark side. And even less about other kinds of innovation flourishing today. LMK what you think.
What is harder to ignore and even more disconcerting is the fact that the same high tech elites who have made literally billions of dollars off the computer revolution at a time of virtually no regulation are now warning us of the downfall of humanity at the hands of computers and AI, and they are now pleading publicly for regulation before it is too late.
The document summarizes an upcoming augmented reality conference and provides updates on developments in the augmented reality field. It lists speakers at the conference including representatives from Meta, FuelFX, and AugmentedReality.org. Recent investments in augmented reality startups are highlighted totaling over $28 million. Developments include Google acquiring a toy startup, Microsoft focusing on Hololens, and Daqri acquiring a headband maker. The document outlines major players in augmented and consumer reality and upcoming events in London and Silicon Valley around augmented reality.

In the realm of cybersecurity, offensive security practices act as a critical shield. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled environment, these techniques expose vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach allows manufacturers to identify and fix weaknesses, significantly enhancing system security.
This presentation delves into the development of a system designed to mimic Galileo's Open Service signal using software-defined radio (SDR) technology. We'll begin with a foundational overview of both Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the intricacies of digital signal processing.
The presentation culminates in a live demonstration. We'll showcase the manipulation of Galileo's Open Service pilot signal, simulating an attack on various software and hardware systems. This practical demonstration serves to highlight the potential consequences of unaddressed vulnerabilities, emphasizing the importance of offensive security practices in safeguarding critical infrastructure.
Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

[OReilly Superstream] Occupy the Space: A grassroots guide to engineering (an...Jason Yip
The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.

QR Secure: A Hybrid Approach Using Machine Learning and Security Validation Functions to Prevent Interaction with Malicious QR Codes.
Aim of the Study: The goal of this research was to develop a robust hybrid approach for identifying malicious and insecure URLs derived from QR codes, ensuring safe interactions.
This is achieved through:
Machine Learning Model: Predicts the likelihood of a URL being malicious.
Security Validation Functions: Ensures the derived URL has a valid certificate and proper URL format.
This innovative blend of technology aims to enhance cybersecurity measures and protect users from potential threats hidden within QR codes 🖥 🔒
This study was my first introduction to using ML which has shown me the immense potential of ML in creating more secure digital environments!
