Collaborative
Innovations
System Seals’ success in the mining
industry stems from a uniquely
collaborative process between the
company and each customer. Our
design engineers and mining specialists
work directly with mining operators
to address needs specific to their
applications. Together, they find new
ways to innovate, solve problems and

Mobile Mining with
Zero-Leak Technology™
Through meticulous attention to detailed
engineering, System Seals has developed
new ways to substantially increase
production efficiencies in mobile mining
equipment by eliminating bypass issues
and preventing drift under load.
The vast majority of OEM seals in mobile
mining carry critical design flaws that
inhibit productivity and reliability. By
upgrading a typical O-ring and backup
ring with System Seals’ Zero-Leak
Technology™ products, mining operators
are increasing their meantime between
repairs. These highly engineered custom
seals eliminate static gland leakage that
creates bypass from normal tube swell.
Don’t let stock seals slow production
and park equipment with low-pressure
nuisance leaks. System Seals resolves
all of these issues entirely and helps
mining operations save millions of
dollars in the process.
Upgrade to the Best Seal Kits
in the Industry
Based on the company’s Zero-Leak Technology, System
Seals has designed and developed the highest performing
seal kits available in the mobile mining industry – for both
maintenance and repair and some of the largest OEMs in the
world. As with any product from System Seals, all kits can be
customized to specific needs using a wide range of materials
and the company’s extensive research-and-development
facilities.
System Seals engineers often can analyze new and
existing applications to develop solutions that outperform
conventional approaches. Seal-kit customers work directly
with engineers and specialists to learn how to maximize
performance in the equipment they manufacture and

Breakthrough Sealing
Systems for the Mining
Industry
System Seals has made a number
of technological innovations in the
mining industry with custom-blended
materials that are more compatible
with specific fluids, temperatures and
pressures. Among those innovations
is the low-friction, composite-
bearing TC1 guide band material,
which is substantially stronger than
nylon-based materials and offers
considerably lower water absorption.
This new material provides more
accurate piston and rod guidance
inside the cylinder under widely varying
load conditions. Reduced bushing
deformation allows the seals and
wipers to perform at unusually high
levels, while minimizing the risk of
scoring and abrasion.
The guide bands are part of the KC70
sealing system, designed specifically for
leg jack cylinders. This system features
the most robust seals in the industry,
which not only increases equipment
uptime and production continuity, but
also ensures the highest levels of
safety available.
The result is a trouble-free system with
an extended life that reduces rebuild
and repair costs. TC1 guide bands
and the KC70 system have been used
extensively throughout the world in roof
support leg jacks, base lifts, ram jacks
and tip sealing systems.
Innovative New Wiper
Design—the Birth of
the Rambo Wiper
System Seals has developed a new
generation wiper seal for the mining
industry that has grown so successful
it has been adapted to other industries
to fight severe contamination. The 324
wiper—dubbed the “Rambo” wiper by
industry insiders—is an aggressive design
with a unique umbrella feature that
wraps around the face of the cylinder,
creating an impenetrable barrier.
Developed through finite element
analysis, the product was proven
over years of extensive testing in a
laboratory and in the field. It features
a heavy-duty scraping force and is
completely water resistant. The 324
Rambo also snaps easily into place and
can even be retrofitted into existing
wiper grooves.
A heel stabilizer stops rollout, and
internal notches prevent pressure
trapping. This long-lasting, extrusion-
resistant, polyurethane seal has set a
new standard in wiper technology, and
mining is the greatest beneficiary.

A CASE STUDY IN RELIABILITY
Raising the Roof
on Leg Jack Cylinders
When an American remanufacturer of
leg jack cylinders decided to compete
with Europe’s global market leaders,
the company recruited System Seals
to redesign the standard OEM seals in
a way that would raise the bar for the
entire mining industry.
Mining operators have placed greater demands on sealing systems to increase safety
and reduce environmental concerns. Uptime in extreme conditions translates directly
to revenue. But when time came to rebuild the cylinders, a lack of viable alternatives
forced the market to follow old OEM seal specifications. Breaking that cycle required
a new design with significant improvements.
System Seals set out to develop a complete sealing package designed specifically
for the company’s new American leg jacks. The initial designs were noticeably more
robust with far greater flexibility during rebuild.
Placing safety as a top concern, the new seals needed to perform in the harshest
underground conditions, while preventing even the slightest drift or bypassing. The
material needed to be compatible with a wide range of fire-resistant fluids, pressures
and temperatures. It would become the most robust seal in any industry, and it
included System Seals’ patented “Rambo” wiper, a custom waterproof design that
aggressively eliminates all contaminates.
Before the prototypes were rolled out, independent European researchers remained
skeptical that significant improvements were even possible. Testing began in Poland.
The initial goal was to safely reach 30,000 cycles. When the seal kit effortlessly
passed that mark, the test team ramped it up to 60,000 cycles.
After more than 120,000 cycles – four times greater than the original goal – researchers
ran out of time and finally ended the test. With no signs of abnormality or excessive
wear, the new System Seals leg jack cylinder kit began to redefine the industry’s
expectations, and it positioned the American rebuilder at the top of the market.

Seal Systems for Leg Jack Cylinders
System Seals develops entire seal systems that maximize
performance and reliability in complex mining equipment such as leg
jack cylinders. Each seal component, including wipers, guide bands
and seals, work more effectively when operating together as a whole.
System Seals also customizes kits for OEM as well as maintenance-
and-repair work using the most advanced technology and analytical
tools. By analyzing specific applications, engineers often improve
overall equipment performance.

Breakthrough Sealing Systems for the Mining Industry System Seals has made a number of technological innovations in the mining industry with custom-blended materials that are more compatible with specific fluids, temperatures and pressures. Among those innovations is the low-friction, composite- bearing TC1 guide band material, which is substantially stronger than nylon-based materials and offers considerably lower water absorption. This new material provides more accurate piston and rod guidance inside the cylinder under widely varying load conditions. Reduced bushing deformation allows the seals and wipers to perform at unusually high levels, while minimizing the risk of scoring and abrasion. The guide bands are part of the KC70 sealing system, designed specifically for leg jack cylinders. This system features the most robust seals in the industry, which not only increases equipment uptime and production continuity, but also ensures the highest levels of safety available. The result is a trouble-free system with an extended life that reduces rebuild and repair costs. TC1 guide bands and the KC70 system have been used extensively throughout the world in roof support leg jacks, base lifts, ram jacks and tip sealing systems. Innovative New Wiper Design—the Birth of the Rambo Wiper System Seals has developed a new generation wiper seal for the mining industry that has grown so successful it has been adapted to other industries to fight severe contamination. The 324 wiper—dubbed the “Rambo” wiper by industry insiders—is an aggressive design with a unique umbrella feature that wraps around the face of the cylinder, creating an impenetrable barrier. Developed through finite element analysis, the product was proven over years of extensive testing in a laboratory and in the field. It features a heavy-duty scraping force and is completely water resistant. The 324 Rambo also snaps easily into place and can even be retrofitted into existing wiper grooves. A heel stabilizer stops rollout, and internal notches prevent pressure trapping. This long-lasting, extrusion- resistant, polyurethane seal has set a new standard in wiper technology, and mining is the greatest beneficiary. • 11. A CASE STUDY IN RELIABILITY Raising the Roof on Leg Jack Cylinders When an American remanufacturer of leg jack cylinders decided to compete with Europe’s global market leaders, the company recruited System Seals to redesign the standard OEM seals in a way that would raise the bar for the entire mining industry. Mining operators have placed greater demands on sealing systems to increase safety and reduce environmental concerns. Uptime in extreme conditions translates directly to revenue. But when time came to rebuild the cylinders, a lack of viable alternatives forced the market to follow old OEM seal specifications. Breaking that cycle required a new design with significant improvements. System Seals set out to develop a complete sealing package designed specifically for the company’s new American leg jacks. The initial designs were noticeably more robust with far greater flexibility during rebuild. Placing safety as a top concern, the new seals needed to perform in the harshest underground conditions, while preventing even the slightest drift or bypassing. The material needed to be compatible with a wide range of fire-resistant fluids, pressures and temperatures. It would become the most robust seal in any industry, and it included System Seals’ patented “Rambo” wiper, a custom waterproof design that aggressively eliminates all contaminates. Before the prototypes were rolled out, independent European researchers remained skeptical that significant improvements were even possible. Testing began in Poland. The initial goal was to safely reach 30,000 cycles. When the seal kit effortlessly passed that mark, the test team ramped it up to 60,000 cycles. After more than 120,000 cycles – four times greater than the original goal – researchers ran out of time and finally ended the test. With no signs of abnormality or excessive wear, the new System Seals leg jack cylinder kit began to redefine the industry’s expectations, and it positioned the American rebuilder at the top of the market. 11 systemseals.com
