Battle Analysis Iran / Iraq War
Battle Analysis Karbala V Iran–Iraq War 9–28 January 1987 I. Introduction By 1987, The Iran– Iraq
War had been fought to a bloody stalemate after seven years. Both nations were looking for a final
victory that would secure regional dominance when the war ended. Iran, which enjoyed a 3–1
population advantage over the Baathists, had shocked Iraqi commanders by their use of "human wave"
offensives to breach minefields and swarm positions. The religious furor of the Shias seemed to be a
substitute for inferior weapons, equipment, training, and logistics. Iraqi units, however, were hardly
defenseless. The use of chemical munitions and armor tactics by Iraqi units, as well as their use of
rehearsal techniques often gave them decisive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Large numbers of Iranians continued to flow out of the bulge crowding the narrow space between
berms two and three. Their progress, however, was blocked by the Border Guards, who gave way
slowly contesting every meter of ground. This produced a frenzied butting match that went on for over
a week. Finally, on or about January 17, the Border Guards side–slipped across the Jasim, opening the
way for the Iranians to surge across the Shatt Al Arab. Before they could do so, however, they had first
to ford a small channel and then traverse an island in the middle of the Shatt. Before the Iranians could
start their river–crossing, the Iraqi high command committed a division of infantry to stop them. The
division attacked south on the island and within 48 hours had succeeded in driving the Iranians off it.
The fighting now subsided for a brief interval, while the Iranians continued moving fresh troops into
the "liberated zone," and the Iraqis consolidated their defense line along the Jasim. On January 27, the
Iranians played their last card–they tried to ford the Jasim and were briefly successful in doing so.
However, after an advance of no more than a few meters, they stalled as the Iraqi defense stiffened,
hurling the Iranians back. On January 28 when a new infusion of Republican Guard reserves crushed
the bulge along Fish Lake, preventing the Iranians from making

Monte Cassino Battle
The attack on Monte Cassino was a bloody affair and one that was dubbed the Stalingrad of the Italian
front. The battle saw a plethora of high explosives exchanged between the Allied and Axis forces of
World War Two. Polish forces had one unlikely war hero on their side, a Syrian brown bear named
Wojtek, which translates in Slavik to, "he who loves war". He was essential in moving ammunition for
the Polish 22nd Artillery Supply Company during the Battle of Monte Cassino, which allowed them to
continue to bombard Axis forces within the city while boosting the morale of friendly forces engaged in
the deadly battle. This essay will continue to address the history and outcome of the Battle of Monte
Cassino, the evolution and contribution provided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today's military still utilizes the attack and defensive techniques presented in this battle by the Allied
and Axis forces. It is also important to take away the role that Wojtek played, and how a simple solution
to a difficult problem can vastly change the tactics, techniques and procedures of a military force in
future operations. One of the most valuable tools to understand is how to use and implement the lessons
learned process to improve and dominate future military operations. As the fires community moves
forward it should continue to understand the role that it plays to shape offensive and defensive
operations, either in a standalone method or as part of a joint attack to control the ground force

Hitler's Involvement In World War II
World War II (WW2 or WWII), also referred to as the Second World War, was a global war that took
place between 1939 and 1945 (Bell, 1997). The war involved the world nations' vast majority, including
the entire great powers that ultimately formed two opposing military alliances, namely the Axis and the
Allies (Hinde & Rotblat, 2002). According to Bell (1997), the Second World War was the most
extensive in history and over one–hundred million people from over thirty world countries had direct
involvement in it. World War Two was a state of total war, and the primary participants threw their full
scientific, industrial, and economic capabilities behind the war effort (Murphy & Bailey, 1997).
Manifested by civilians mass deaths, including the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Bell (1997), Hitler's destruction of anyone who opposed him got exemplified in 1934
during the 'Night of the long Knives' when Hitler's enemies got rounded up and slaughtered. Despite
not being hesitant in eliminating those who opposed him, Hitler gained control over the soul and heart
of the Germans through his exploitation of xenophobia and anger in Germany (Stern & Weinberg,
1995). Germany's arming got accelerated, and the Third Reich had just arrived since the Nazis took
charge as the path to the Second World War opened up, a war that would later claim over fifty million
lives (Murphy & Bailey,

The Causes Of Imperial Japan
"As human beings we have the most extraordinary capacity for evil." – Desmond Tutu. This is
especially true during war. During war, men lose their humanity, and are surrounded by the horrors of
war. Almost all traditional laws are ignored, and atrocities are committed. While all nations have
committed atrocities during wars, perhaps the most disturbing are the atrocities committed by Imperial
Japan. Imperial Japan was responsible for numerous atrocities before and during WWII. During the
Second Sino–Japanese War, Japan massacred millions of Chinese, which then spread to other nations as
Japan gained more power and territory. All in all, Imperial Japan committed some of the worst
atrocities mankind has ever experienced. Prior to the atrocities committed during the pacific wars, the
Empire of Japan was involved in many other conflicts with nearby nations. Namely, the Qing Empire of
China. The First Sino–Japanese war was fought from 1894 to 1895, between China and Japan due to
conflict over Korea. During this war, China was unable to modernize its army against the Japanese,
who had recently undergone the Meji Restoration, and improved its military. This led to a victory for
the Japanese, and for the first time, the dominance over East Asia shifted from China to Japan.1 To
further add to the tension between the two nations, Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931, creating a puppet
state of Manchukuo. As the dominant force in East Asia, Imperial Japan perpetrated atrocities targeting

How the United States Must Handle China and Its Military...
There is a delicate balancing act a country must be aware of when it is a military superpower. A
superpower must exercise extreme care to protect their economic superiority, advance their foreign
policies, and project their military might all while working to advance the global system. Enticing
China to become a responsible pillar of the global system will be one of the greatest challenges of
coming decades for the United States and the Western world–particularly since it appears for the
moment China is uninterested in playing such a role. This is the unique situation the United States and
China find themselves in, with so many mutual interests, and as the global economy begins to slow,
challenges such as: China's increase in military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Bergsten, "unless China is careful such a regional grouping would almost certainly trigger
a sharp backlash from the U.S. and EU, as well as from numerous developing countries, who view this
as discrimination against them." The test for the U.S. is how to deal with this matter while still fostering
positive relations with its Chinese's trading partner. The National Security Strategy released by the
White House states, "We welcome a China that takes on a responsible leadership role in working with
the United States and the international community to advance priorities like economic recovery." My
concern is whether this is a goal shared by China due to their numerous interactions with other nations
in the region. When it comes to the global economy, this much is true: 2009 was China's year. In the
first decade of the 21st century, China established itself as the world's workshop. The next decade (if
things go right) could see China emerge as the world's leading exporter of capital and military muscle.
China (not including Hong Kong) has become the largest trading partner of Taiwan and the second
largest trading partner of Japan. The hope is increased economic trade between these nations will
elevate some of the political tension recently experienced. The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) has
become South Korea's largest foreign investment destination and largest export market. According to
Taiwanese and Korean data, in

Essay about Counter Terrorism Unit
Introduction
*Note: information concerning the formation of the CTU is fictional Terrorism is one of the greatest
concerns of the 21st century. It is a method that has been embraced by many groups with many
different ideologies. It has the potential of causing major devastation, especially with the specter of acts
of nuclear, biological, and chemical terrorism. There have been many references by both the media and
politicians to a "War on Terror," and if we are to characterize this as a war, it is a war with an ill–
defined and changing enemy, no front lines, and a war that is fraught with moral dilemmas. In this
committee, we will simulate the other side of this battle – the terrorist groups that exist throughout the

You will be tasked with the difficult attempt of consolidating your efforts, agreeing to shared aims, and
destroying the ability and willingness of the West to continue to degrade our nations and way of life.
With the United States drawing down its forces in Iraq, the work of the Iranians on their nuclear
technology, and recent developments in the world at large distracting the West, this is our chance to
strike back at our enemy after a decade of war in which we have continued to retreat. We must regain
our strength and influence in our homelands. You must rebuild the strength of your organizations, both
in terms of men and money and in terms of operational capacity and reach.
However, you must also be creative and take the fight back to the enemy's lands. For too long they have
sat in safety as they bomb our lands and invade us from afar. It is time for their populations to feel the
costs of war as we have felt it for decades. There are many weaknesses to be exploited and avenues of
approach. To you is left the task of figuring out which is most worthwhile and practical. The price of
failure is great, for failure means the loss of our beliefs and lands. Good luck, and may you succeed in
the monumental tasks before you.
Background on Terrorism Terrorism is a term whose definition remains disputed to this day. Although

Operation Overlord: The Invasion Of Normandy Invasion
D–Day, also known as Operation Overlord, was the largest amphibious invasion in history. That being
said, we owe all those soldiers who fought in Normandy everything that we hold dear to us today.
Those brave soldiers saved not only us, but all of Western Europe from Adolf Hitler, his German army
and the Nazi way to life. The Battle of Normandy began on June 6, 1944 and lasted until August 1944.
This did not bring an end to the war in Europe, but with additional hard fought battles, victory was
finally within reach. The Americans entered the war in December 1941 and by 1942, the British (who
had already been evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk in May 1940), were thinking about crossing
the English Channel and invading the Germans on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Americans were doing the same thing on Utah beach. In minutes, the British had taken control of
Pegasus Bridge over the Caen Canal and nearby Horsa Bridge over the River Orne. Other airborne
troops destroyed bridges over the River Dives to prevent the German reinforcements from arriving. In a
bloody firefight, the British took out a key German artillery battery. The British landed on Sword beach
around 7:25 a.m., which is about the same time at Gold but before Juno, the Germans fired on them
pretty heavy, but soon they secured beach exits with the help of the "Funnies." Once they were inland,
they met up with the airborne troops and faced pretty strong resistance in farmyards and villages. By
the late afternoon, the Germans were able to make a counterattack and made it all the way to the beach
at one location, but were sent back. The Allies would not be able to unite all five of the D–Day beaches

Today, the term is commonly used to describe a material used in pottery. The earliest recorded ceramics
were the result of various mixtures and base – combinations, including clay. The resultant non–metallic
and inorganic solid base is now a common sight in art ware and the domestic and industrial segments of
human development. The twentieth century witnessed the design of amalgamated, new ceramic
materials that are still used extensively in the manufacture of semiconductors. Ceramic engineering, as
we know it today, is advanced and involves state–of–the–art processes. The material is inert and
inorganic, with a crystalline oxide base. The resultant product is always brittle, but strong in
compression. Ceramic is able to withstand very high temperatures and chemical erosion and survives
well even in a strong caustic environment. Traditional raw materials that go into manufacture of
ceramic including kaolinite, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide and aluminum oxide or alumina.
HISTORY OF CERAMICS Reflecting on the history of ceramics involves a clear understanding of the
two related branches, technology and aesthetics. Ceramics technology has developed sophisticated
material, over the years, for greater aesthetics. The initial hand–rolled coils took no time to evolve into
fuel efficient glazes that were developed in special kilns. The aesthetics of the material developed

World War II Essay
World War II was one of the most deadly wars we know in history, having as many as sixty million
casualties, most of whom were civilians. It impacted a lot of countries, almost all the world, which is
why the name is given. This war impacted many countries in the world, and damaged almost all of the
countries involved greatly. It also led to the downfall of Western European countries as world powers,
leaving it to the Soviet Union, and the United States. The war started in 1939 and ended in 1945, with
the invasion of Poland and the Axis surrender, respectively. It changed the economy and the growth of
big countries, including Germany, Great Britain, United States, Japan, Russia and France. Aside from

This same day, in Great Britain, Chamberlain had resigned , leaving his companion Winston Churchill
his spot, the country, and the war. Five days after Germanic invasions in Holland, they surrendered . On
May 24th, the German invasion of Dunkirk had been finished in a triumph. Hitler took his troops out

comment on June 5th. "Dunkirk has fallen... with it has ended the greatest battle of world history.
Soldiers! My confidence in you knew no bounds. You have not disappointed me." On May 27th,
Belgium surrendered, and Europe started to be on Germany's mercy. To remember, at this time, several
thousands of Jews were being captured and killed in concentration camps. France was keeping their
borders well protected, since Germany was getting closer in. France's 800,000–man standing army was
thought at the time to be the most powerful in Europe. But since they stayed in the defense, Germany
moved in with less divisions, but strategically took Paris in June 14th, that later followed a treaty with
France and Germany. On June 10th, the Italians declared war on Great Britain and France. That same
day next month, July 10th, it is said to be the start of the Battle of Britain. Churchill was in hand of the

Abstract
During World War II, many African American Soldiers served the country with distinction. Most
African Americans were assigned to non–combat units and worked in supply, maintenance and
transportation jobs behind the front lines, but late in the war heavy troop losses forced the military to
place more African American Soldiers into combat jobs as both commissioned officers and enlisted
Soldiers. This went against long held beliefs that the black Soldier did not have what it took to be
combat Soldiers. Soldiers in segregated units like the 92nd Division, the 761st Tank Battalion, the more
famous Tuskegee Airmen and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 761st Tank Battalion was an independent tank battalion made up of African American enlisted
Soldiers led by mostly Caucasian American officers. They were forbidden to serve alongside "white"
Soldiers by federal law and the Army wouldn't desegregate until after World War II. While American
military leaders had reservations about using African American Soldiers in combat (MacGregor, 1981),
when given the opportunity they displayed great heroism and combat ability because they wanted to
show their love for their country and earn the respect of the American people, facing prejudices and
racism from the highest levels of the military leadership; they fought not only against the enemies of
the United States but against racism from both the American people and military members both at home
and while stationed overseas.
The Black Panthers When given the opportunity in combat the segregated units displayed great heroism
and combat ability, showing their love of country and fighting to earn the respect of their American
compatriots and the American people. General Lesley J. McNair, the commander of Army Ground
Forces, successfully argued that "colored" units should be employed in combat. At McNair 's
suggestion, the US Army began to experiment with segregated combat units in 1941; the program was
supported by, and given national exposure in,

Simon Weisenthal was a renowned Nazi hunter and Author. He was born on December 31st, 1908. He
lived a heroic life and died on September 20, 2005. I am just here to explain his tales and misfortunes.
Simon started off by being born in the Ukraine, but his parents soon packed up and took him along to
Argentina. Growing up he did well in school and graduated from The Gymnasium in 1928 and applied
to the Polytechnic Institute in Lvov. Turned away because of restrictions on Jewish students, he went to
the Technical University of Prague instead, from which he received his degree in architectural
engineering in 1932. In 1936, Simon married Cyla Mueller and worked in an architectural office in

After his life of nazi hunting, he moved back to his native land Austria. Used to his active lifestyle, he
found himself doing nothing all day. He decided to spend his time more productively by writing down
all that he remembered about being a concentration camp inmate. The book was about when he was a
concentration camp inmate, Simon was taken from his cell to the bedside of a dying member of the SS.
(Hitler's personal guards) Haunted by the crimes he has helped commit and watch in the past, he
wanted to hear a jew say that he forgives him so he could die at peace. Faced with the choice of a man
dying in peace, or silence and justice, he chose silence. The book was later published and titled

basking in the sun. He started from ground zero, pretty much like a robot. Everyday he wakes up at the
same time, eats the same lousy breakfast, works in the same factory, and sleeps at the same time. Then
eventually his camp is liberated right before the nazis started liquidating the inmates population. Then
he became a free man therefore has no restraints. Simon was also awarded many medals for his services
as a Nazi hunter. 13 states dished out medals of honor, and France, Germany, England, and America. In

The Battle Of The War Forever
The date is July 6, 1944. A young Solider in his early 20's armed with a pair of wire cutters, a rifle, and
explosives makes his way through Omaha Beach, through countless obstacles (Kennedy, 2012). This
young Solider has a very important job. Behind him are thousands of infantrymen, desperately fighting
their way up a hill; it is up to him to clear the way. However, In front of him are rows of mines,
hedgehogs, wire obstacles, and barricades. He must complete these tasks all while receiving heavy fire.
You see he is no ordinary Soldier, he is a Combat Engineer, and what he does here today will change
the tides of the war forever (Kennedy, 2012). This engineer is well trained and comes from a long line
of warriors who have paved the way for him, laying down the groundwork for what he must
accomplish here today. The Combat Engineers can trace their lineage back to the 16th of June 1775.
The first Chief Engineer was Colonel Richard Gridley, who was assigned by General George
Washington (usace.army.mil, n.d.). In 1779 congress would establish the first official Corp of
Engineers. The Corps of Engineers first task was to build fortifications near Boston at Bunker Hill to
reinforce the camp. At the time the Corps of Engineers was mostly composed of French subjects who
had been hired by General Washington from the service of Louis XVI (usace.army.mil, n.d.). Combat
Engineers have fought in every altercation that America has been involved in. From the Battle of

A Comparison of Guido and Dora Orefice in the Film Life Is...
The characters of Guido and Dora Orefice, from the Italian film "Life is Beautiful" have many
differences in their personalities and backgrounds but are very similar in some important ways. They
are both strong–willed, independent, and have strong family values. Guido is a Jewish man, who is
presumably poor because the beginning of the film deals with him attempting to find a job. He
eventually finds one as a waiter, which suits his personality because he is the type of person that always
wants to please others and make them happy. Despite the prejudice he receives for being Jewish he is a
very happy and good–humored person. Dora on the other hand, grew up in very different
circumstances. She is not Jewish, probably Christian, and is from a fairly wealthy family. She is already
engaged to another man, the man who refused Guido a job after he accidentally dropped eggs on his

Battle Of Bien Hoa Essay
The Battle of Bien Hoa
Senior Leaders have analyzed wars for years in hopes of finding the most efficient way to conduct war.
This paper explores the events of that took place during the Battle of Bien Hoa in 1968. Research was
conducted through internet and non–internet sources to provide the most accurate facts concerning this
battle. The 29th of January 1968 was the beginning of Battle of Bien Hoa when the Bien Hoa Air Base
went under attack. On 31 January the first Tet Offensive began by the National Liberation Front for
South Vietnam in order to shift the invading army and regain control by the Vietnamese. A total of 39
encounters were recorded in this battle fought by brave Soldiers from the 17th Calvary, the 11th

Friendly forces had more technology advances. While the VC and North Vietnamese soldiers only had
hand guns, rockets, grenades and some machine guns, friendly forces had better weapons, better
channels of communication, and an intelligence team in place, armored tanks, air power, and a
combination of joint forces. "One of the greatest advantages to the friendly forces is advance notice of
an impending attack. This allows the commander to make all–out preparations and to be at maximum
readiness when the attack occurs." (BACM Research, 2009) Leadership played a major role in this
battle. Even though much is not said about the Noncommissioned Officers, plenty is said about the
officers in command. They were willing to take control and adjust the mission using the proper chain of
command in order to disseminate the changes to the lowest level. The VC lost approximately 600
Soldiers, US had approximately 35 wounded and 9 Soldiers killed in action, and the ARVN had
approximately 400 dead and wounded Soldiers. Training and team work played a key role in this battle.
In 1967 Combined Arms Operations was established and by mid 1967 the school of armor increased its
training from two hours to twenty hours. Several encounters took place throughout this battle; it was
only through teamwork, preparation, and rehearsal that friendly forces were able to achieve victory. At
first there was a dilemma about whether or not armored vehicles were going to be approved by the

Operation Iraqi Freedom Essay
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM
Introduction
On March 20, 2003, the combined military forces of the United States and Britain crossed the southern
border of Iraq and Kuwait with the intent of capitulating the government of Saddam Hussein. Over the
course of 21 days, the joint task force moved quickly and decisively to seize major objective cities
along the road to Baghdad using aviation, armor, artillery, and infantry. Following the overwhelming
success of the primary combat operations of the invasion, stability and support systems proved
insufficient as sectarian violence and other criminal activity among the local population of Iraq
increased.

A period of civil unrest and revolt plagued the British mandate government in Iraq. Arab nationalist and
other political activists led an uprising against the Regent monarch resulting in a coup d'etat in July
1958 by members of the newly formed Ba'ath Party. (4) A series of power struggles ended 10 years
later placing Ahmed Hasan al–Bakr as President, with a young Saddam Hussein as his deputy.
After many years of operating as President Bakr's chief of security and instituting measures of loyalty
among various sectors of the Iraqi Ba'ath government, Saddam Hussein demanded the President's
resignation. On July 22, 1979, Hussein administered a series of "democratic executions," killing or
imprisoning 66
government officials that were identified as conspirators against the Ba'ath party. (5) His ruthless and
brutal dictatorship would bring his country to war with neighboring Iran from 1980 to 1988. Initially a
territorial dispute, Hussein would cite Iran's Islamic fundamentalism as his motives for continued
combat and Iraq's use of chemical weapons. (6) The war resulted in more than 100,000 combat deaths
and drove Iraq deep into debt. The military annex of Kuwait in 1991 was intended to absolve Iraq of
this financial responsibility to it's neighbor. (7) The United Nations Security Council, in particular the
United States, responded with force to drive Saddam Hussein's army

In order to begin understanding Syria is important to take time to know the early history. For the
Syrians history represents the events that leaded to their identity, as they know it and the rest of the
world see it. Those past events shaped the interaction with its border neighbors and the rest of the world
today. Their patterns of life, how they educate citizens and practice of the religion that has been pass
generation to generation, has been portrayed on Syria's history.
From the earliest times until present, Syria has presented a connection between Turkey, Iraq, Jordan,
Israel and Lebanon by its geographical location. This made this country a strategic location for
substantial trades and to influence over the other regional civilizations in the past and present.
Important caravan links and cities lay along the dessert of the country. Tadmor, Damascus also known

Realization of the "Network Centric Warfare" ideas became the main goal of the Donald Rumsfeld 's
era as the Secretary of Defense and for the fist time was shown in practice during the 2nd Gulf War in
2003.[6] The biggest change between the First and the Second Gulf War came in the real–time
communications systems between units and their commanders. The main task of the specially
designated units, like the 11th Signal Brigade was "connecting foxhole with the White House". Soldiers
of the Brigade, during assault on Baghdad occupying "Satellite Park" (camp with dozens of satellite
dishes settled somewhere in Kuwait, approximately 75 miles from Iraqi border) were controlling if
every unit has maintaining connection with the central command. In 2003 the 11th Signal Brigade were
responsible for the flow of whole Army 's battlefield communication (five networks). The routine of
checking health of the communication nodes spread among fighting units, were broken when any one
of the representing them icons changed color from green to red. In these cases main task of the unit
were becoming delivery of reserve transmitters on the front line. In the Revolution in Military Affairs it
is necessary that every soldier can get connection to the Global Command and Control System

Watch On The Bulge Research Paper
"Watch on the Rhine" or "The Battle of the Bulge" as the American called it, was the Germans last
major counter–offensive in World War II to push the allied force out of northern France and into
northwestern Belgium. The fighting force in the battle was 250,000 Germans which included 14
German infantry divisions guarded by four Panzer tank divisions against a mere 80,000 Americans. The
first assault happened on December 16, 1944, on a thinly guarded 85 mile stretch from Echternach in
the south to Monschau in the north in the Ardennes Mountains, called the Ghost Front. For Adolf Hitler
and the Reich, this was their last big push against the Allied Forces. For SS Lieutenant Colonel Joachim
Peiper and his panzer division, it was their chance to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am taking the offensive in the Ardennes! Across the Meuse and on to Antwerp!" From the end of
September to December 7th, Hitler and his most trusted generals worked up the plan for the Ardennes
Offensive that was first titled Operation "Christrose" but when Hitler saw the final version, he
cheerfully renamed it, "Watch on the Rhine." High commanding officers were read into the operation.
By the end of December 7th, the first load of supplies was loaded on trains and on the way to the
Ardennes to ensure all the supplies they would need for the operation were stockpiled and on December
11th the buildup was complete. Hitler moved his headquarter near a castle in Ziegenburg so he was
about to keep a close, personal eye on the operation and set the date of December 16th for the attack to
begin. Hitler briefed his division commanders himself and concluded by saying, "This battle is to
decide whether we shall live or die. I want all my soldiers to fight hard and without pity. The battle
must be fought with brutality and all resistance must be broken in a wave of terror. In the most serious
hour of the Fatherland, I expect every one of my soldiers to be courageous and again courageous. The
enemy must be beaten–now or never! Thus lives our Germany!!" The commanders were sent back to

markets were opening with fresh produce, live stock was becoming available, which meant more fresh
meat. Quite a bit of the produce was making its way up to Washington D.C. by train. It was touch and
go for a bit for Captain O'Hara and Major Luxon. There were some farms and ranches east of
Hawkesbury Farm and some of the ranching and farming communities had joined forces and created
their own states, with their own local governments and declared they were no longer part of the United
States. Captain O'Hara was notified that there was flash traffic waiting for him at the base
communications center. It was only a shortwave radio, but it was better than nothing. Captain O'Hara
was in the middle of an inspection when his Executive Officer told him in no uncertain terms he needed
to get his ass over to the communications center and read the message. He told his commander that, of
course he couldn't read it, because it was classified for his eyes only, but a little bird told him it was no
ordinary message and he needed to get his ass over there. The communications center was fifteen
minutes from his current position. He was inspecting one of the new frigates that had been retrofitted
with new diesel engines and the navigation systems replaced with something far more archaic than the
high tech and sophisticated system it used to have. Captain O'Hara wondered what could be so

The beginnings and ends of what we choose to call centuries are almost invariably years of little
significance. But there is little agreement over when the twentieth century c.e. arrived, and there were
several points both before the year 2000 (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of
Germany, the surge of globalization from the mid–1990s) and afterward (9/11, or the global recession
of 2008) when one could quite plausibly argue that a new era had begun. A compelling case can be
made for viewing the decades of the global scramble for colonies after 1870 as a predictable
culmination of the long nineteenth century, which was ushered in by the industrial and political
revolutions of the late 1700s. But at the same time, without serious attention to the processes and
misguided policies that led to decades of agrarian and industrial depression from the late 1860s to the
1890s, as well as the social tensions and political rivalries that generated and were in turn fed by
imperialist expansionism, one cannot begin to comprehend the causes and consequences of the Great
War that began in 1914. That conflict determined the contours of the twentieth century in myriad ways.
On the one hand, the war set in motion transformative processes that were clearly major departures
from those that defined the nineteenth–century world order. On the other, it perversely unleashed forces

The Black Panther Tank Battalion Essay
The 'Black Panther' Tank Battalion The 761st 'Black Panther' Tank Battalion was the first African–
American armored unit to see combat. Before and during mobilization for World War II, officials in
Washington, D.C., debated whether or not African–American soldiers should be used in armored units.
Many military men and politicians believed that blacks did not have the brains, quickness or moral
stamina to fight in a war. Referring to his World War I experiences, Colonel James A. Moss,
commander of the 367th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Division, stated, "As fighting troops, the Negro
must be rated as second–class material, this primarily to his inferior intelligence and lack of mental and
moral qualities." Colonel Perry L. Miles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In March 1941, 98 black enlisted men reported to Fort Knox, Ky., from Fort Custer, Mich., for armored
warfare training with the 758th Tank Battalion (light). The pioneer black tankers trained in light tank
operations, mechanics and related phases of mechanized warfare, as enlisted men from other Army
units joined their ranks. The 758th trained on the M–5 light tank, which carried a crew of four. Powered
by twin Cadillac engines, it could reach a maximum speed of 40 mph and had an open–road cruising
range of 172 miles. It was armed with a .30 caliber machine gun mounted to fire along the same axis as
the tank's main armament, a 37mm cannon. When the tracer bullets from the .30 caliber registered on a
target, the cannon would be fired, hopefully scoring a direct hit. The M–5 was also armed with two
more .30–caliber machine guns, one on the turret and one in the bow. The light tank was employed to
provide fire support, mobility and crew protection in screening and reconnaissance missions. The 5th
Tank Group, commanded by Colonel LeRoy Nichols, was to be made up of black enlisted personnel
and white officers. With the 758th Tank Battalion in place, two more tank battalions were needed to
complete the 5th Tank Group. On March 15, 1942, the War Department ordered the activation of the

Essay on A History of the 714th Tank Battalion
A History of the 714th Tank Battalion, 1942–45
The men of the 714th Tank Battalion served their country in its greatest time of need. A key element of
the 12th Armored Division, the 714th fought in harsh conditions against a desperate German enemy for
five consecutive months, driving the Nazi Armies from France and back into the German heartland.
The 12th Armored Division was activated on 15 September 1942 at a freshly built Camp Campbell,
Kentucky, and soldiers from across the nation began arriving to fill the division's ranks on 24 October
1942. The governors of both Kentucky and Tennessee participated in the activation ceremonies, in
which Major General Carlos Brewer was named commander of the forming division.

The 12th Armored began division–sized maneuvers on 27 April 1943, and Camp Campbell was used on
the 16th and 17th of July, 1943, to stage the Division's first corps level problem with the IV Corps,
Second Army. The 12th Armored had been assigned to IV Corps the previous month.
In August 1943 the 12th Armored Division executed two exercises in preparation for the Tennessee
Maneuvers, which were to start in September. The first was a crossing of the Cumberland River, an
amphibious operation lasting approximately four days. The second exercise, involving four days of air–
ground tactical training, developed upon the Division's return to Camp Campbell The various units of
the 12th Armored began to move south for the Tennessee Maneuvers on 3 September 1943. The 12th
participated in eight of the Tennessee Maneuvers' operations, which lasted from 6 September to the first
of November, 1943.
After the Tennessee Maneuvers the Division was reassigned to Camp Barkeley, Texas, and ordered to

Eisenhower and Patton Comparison Essay
General Eisenhower and General Patton:
A Comparison
Zerrrouk (PN)
From a fiercely brave General, who strictly enforces customs, bravery, formalities, and success; to a
General with a lighthearted–mood, down to earth attitude, a steadfast courage, and a integrity and
decency to lead the nations of the world into battle; while both these legendary Generals fought on the
same side, both General S. Patton and General D. Eisenhower were distinctly different Generals. This
paper seeks to outline the differences and similarities between the two Generals by taking a close look
at their lives, and the impacts they had on WWII.
George S. Patton was born on November 11th, 1885, in San Gabriel California. As Patton grew older,
he developed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this action he was stripped of his command over the 2nd Armored Division in Africa. Patton could
not stand to have a soldier that was anything less than what he thought a true soldier should represent.
Patton believes that "courage and fear are phenomena which can be governed by training and
discipline," and that fear is lost through intense training and patriotism. Patton did not hate his men, but
he didn't want to see his soldiers hospitalized as injured men with battle fatigue or neurosis, but as a
spectacle of American bravery. Visiting his troops in the hospital got him emotional and he state once
that, "They're the best damned soldiers the world has ever seen. One day I bawl the hell out of them and
the next I weep over them."
Patton was relieved of active duty until he was summoned by Eisenhower to lead the 3rd American
army in the breakthrough Normandy. Eisenhower, more than anybody, knew the talents that Patton had
in war; and with the 3rd American Army, Patton cut through the German lines all the way to Rennes,
and then to Nantes, and then stopped at Metz for gas and munitions. Patton was always a step ahead of
everyone – especially the Germans. After the push stopped, Patton was ordered to move from Saar and
attack General Von Rundstedt – which was deemed impossible by others but not Patton. After
Rundstedt was captured, Rundstedt gave a high praise to Patton for his

Why The Battle Of The Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge, or Ardennen Offensive was a major German offensive. On December 16, 1944
towards the end of World War II the battle was the only major German offensive of the war, launched
by Adolf Hitler in order to attempt to reverse the decrease in his fortunes that had started on D–ay. He
intended to accomplish this by trying to split Allied troops through an assault located within the
Ardennes Forest of Belgium, destroying enemy troops located here. He believed would ensure the allies
to form a peace treaty that would favor the Axis Powers. The attack in the Ardennes Forest did not
result in Hitler's predicted outcome. The Ardennes Forest, was a dense forest with only a few roads that
stretched seventy–five miles, these roads were being help by four inexperienced and tired American
divisions. Using them element of surprise the German troops attacked the forest on December 16, 1944.
The American divisions, desperately sought to stop advancing German troops. Despite their attempts by
the end of the day the German stoops had broken through the American lines, taking over important
intersections and had surrounded the majority of the infantry division. (Battle of the Buldge December

Us Soldiers And Nazi Concentration Camps
US Soldiers ' Reaction to Nazi Concentration Camps
"When we walked through those gates...1 saw in front of me the walking dead. There they stood. They
were skin and bone. They had skeletal faces with deep set eyes. Their heads had been clean shaved.
They were holding each other for stability. I couldn't understand this. I just couldn't. So I walked
around the camp; I wanted to...understand more. I went to a building where they stored body parts from
'medical experiments' in jars of formaldehyde. I saw fingers and eyes and the hearts and genitals. I saw
mounds of little children's clothing. Little children who didn't survive. I saw...all of those things that
belong to little children. But I never saw a child....If this could happen here, it could happen anywhere.
It could happen to me. .one often wonder what I would have done if, in 1939, my family and I had been
caught up in this and for all those years nobody, not nobody, would help us. I would have been a bitter
man..." This statement was spoken by Leon Ball, a liberator of Buchenwald, the first concentration
camp to be discovered by the American forces ("Oh, No, It Can't Be"). When the United States army
discovered the concentration camps, it refuted their previous thoughts that everything heard was
exaggerated; these exaggerations were now seen as understatements. Though the troops who had seen
the horrific images of the camps and survivors had much sympathy for the survivors, it was lacking that
sympathy once the United States

  • 3. Battle Analysis Iran / Iraq War Battle Analysis Karbala V Iran–Iraq War 9–28 January 1987 I. Introduction By 1987, The Iran– Iraq War had been fought to a bloody stalemate after seven years. Both nations were looking for a final victory that would secure regional dominance when the war ended. Iran, which enjoyed a 3–1 population advantage over the Baathists, had shocked Iraqi commanders by their use of "human wave" offensives to breach minefields and swarm positions. The religious furor of the Shias seemed to be a substitute for inferior weapons, equipment, training, and logistics. Iraqi units, however, were hardly defenseless. The use of chemical munitions and armor tactics by Iraqi units, as well as their use of rehearsal techniques often gave them decisive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Large numbers of Iranians continued to flow out of the bulge crowding the narrow space between berms two and three. Their progress, however, was blocked by the Border Guards, who gave way slowly contesting every meter of ground. This produced a frenzied butting match that went on for over a week. Finally, on or about January 17, the Border Guards side–slipped across the Jasim, opening the way for the Iranians to surge across the Shatt Al Arab. Before they could do so, however, they had first to ford a small channel and then traverse an island in the middle of the Shatt. Before the Iranians could start their river–crossing, the Iraqi high command committed a division of infantry to stop them. The division attacked south on the island and within 48 hours had succeeded in driving the Iranians off it. The fighting now subsided for a brief interval, while the Iranians continued moving fresh troops into the "liberated zone," and the Iraqis consolidated their defense line along the Jasim. On January 27, the Iranians played their last card–they tried to ford the Jasim and were briefly successful in doing so. However, after an advance of no more than a few meters, they stalled as the Iraqi defense stiffened, hurling the Iranians back. On January 28 when a new infusion of Republican Guard reserves crushed the bulge along Fish Lake, preventing the Iranians from making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Monte Cassino Battle The attack on Monte Cassino was a bloody affair and one that was dubbed the Stalingrad of the Italian front. The battle saw a plethora of high explosives exchanged between the Allied and Axis forces of World War Two. Polish forces had one unlikely war hero on their side, a Syrian brown bear named Wojtek, which translates in Slavik to, "he who loves war". He was essential in moving ammunition for the Polish 22nd Artillery Supply Company during the Battle of Monte Cassino, which allowed them to continue to bombard Axis forces within the city while boosting the morale of friendly forces engaged in the deadly battle. This essay will continue to address the history and outcome of the Battle of Monte Cassino, the evolution and contribution provided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today's military still utilizes the attack and defensive techniques presented in this battle by the Allied and Axis forces. It is also important to take away the role that Wojtek played, and how a simple solution to a difficult problem can vastly change the tactics, techniques and procedures of a military force in future operations. One of the most valuable tools to understand is how to use and implement the lessons learned process to improve and dominate future military operations. As the fires community moves forward it should continue to understand the role that it plays to shape offensive and defensive operations, either in a standalone method or as part of a joint attack to control the ground force commander's ... • 5. Hitler's Involvement In World War II World War II (WW2 or WWII), also referred to as the Second World War, was a global war that took place between 1939 and 1945 (Bell, 1997). The war involved the world nations' vast majority, including the entire great powers that ultimately formed two opposing military alliances, namely the Axis and the Allies (Hinde & Rotblat, 2002). According to Bell (1997), the Second World War was the most extensive in history and over one–hundred million people from over thirty world countries had direct involvement in it. World War Two was a state of total war, and the primary participants threw their full scientific, industrial, and economic capabilities behind the war effort (Murphy & Bailey, 1997). Manifested by civilians mass deaths, including the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Bell (1997), Hitler's destruction of anyone who opposed him got exemplified in 1934 during the 'Night of the long Knives' when Hitler's enemies got rounded up and slaughtered. Despite not being hesitant in eliminating those who opposed him, Hitler gained control over the soul and heart of the Germans through his exploitation of xenophobia and anger in Germany (Stern & Weinberg, 1995). Germany's arming got accelerated, and the Third Reich had just arrived since the Nazis took charge as the path to the Second World War opened up, a war that would later claim over fifty million lives (Murphy & Bailey, ... • 6. The Causes Of Imperial Japan "As human beings we have the most extraordinary capacity for evil." – Desmond Tutu. This is especially true during war. During war, men lose their humanity, and are surrounded by the horrors of war. Almost all traditional laws are ignored, and atrocities are committed. While all nations have committed atrocities during wars, perhaps the most disturbing are the atrocities committed by Imperial Japan. Imperial Japan was responsible for numerous atrocities before and during WWII. During the Second Sino–Japanese War, Japan massacred millions of Chinese, which then spread to other nations as Japan gained more power and territory. All in all, Imperial Japan committed some of the worst atrocities mankind has ever experienced. Prior to the atrocities committed during the pacific wars, the Empire of Japan was involved in many other conflicts with nearby nations. Namely, the Qing Empire of China. The First Sino–Japanese war was fought from 1894 to 1895, between China and Japan due to conflict over Korea. During this war, China was unable to modernize its army against the Japanese, who had recently undergone the Meji Restoration, and improved its military. This led to a victory for the Japanese, and for the first time, the dominance over East Asia shifted from China to Japan.1 To further add to the tension between the two nations, Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931, creating a puppet state of Manchukuo. As the dominant force in East Asia, Imperial Japan perpetrated atrocities targeting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How the United States Must Handle China and Its Military... There is a delicate balancing act a country must be aware of when it is a military superpower. A superpower must exercise extreme care to protect their economic superiority, advance their foreign policies, and project their military might all while working to advance the global system. Enticing China to become a responsible pillar of the global system will be one of the greatest challenges of coming decades for the United States and the Western world–particularly since it appears for the moment China is uninterested in playing such a role. This is the unique situation the United States and China find themselves in, with so many mutual interests, and as the global economy begins to slow, challenges such as: China's increase in military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Bergsten, "unless China is careful such a regional grouping would almost certainly trigger a sharp backlash from the U.S. and EU, as well as from numerous developing countries, who view this as discrimination against them." The test for the U.S. is how to deal with this matter while still fostering positive relations with its Chinese's trading partner. The National Security Strategy released by the White House states, "We welcome a China that takes on a responsible leadership role in working with the United States and the international community to advance priorities like economic recovery." My concern is whether this is a goal shared by China due to their numerous interactions with other nations in the region. When it comes to the global economy, this much is true: 2009 was China's year. In the first decade of the 21st century, China established itself as the world's workshop. The next decade (if things go right) could see China emerge as the world's leading exporter of capital and military muscle. China (not including Hong Kong) has become the largest trading partner of Taiwan and the second largest trading partner of Japan. The hope is increased economic trade between these nations will elevate some of the political tension recently experienced. The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) has become South Korea's largest foreign investment destination and largest export market. According to Taiwanese and Korean data, in ... It is a method that has been embraced by many groups with many different ideologies. It has the potential of causing major devastation, especially with the specter of acts of nuclear, biological, and chemical terrorism. There have been many references by both the media and politicians to a "War on Terror," and if we are to characterize this as a war, it is a war with an ill– defined and changing enemy, no front lines, and a war that is fraught with moral dilemmas. You will be tasked with the difficult attempt of consolidating your efforts, agreeing to shared aims, and destroying the ability and willingness of the West to continue to degrade our nations and way of life. With the United States drawing down its forces in Iraq, the work of the Iranians on their nuclear technology, and recent developments in the world at large distracting the West, this is our chance to strike back at our enemy after a decade of war in which we have continued to retreat. We must regain our strength and influence in our homelands. You must rebuild the strength of your organizations, both in terms of men and money and in terms of operational capacity and reach. However, you must also be creative and take the fight back to the enemy's lands. For too long they have sat in safety as they bomb our lands and invade us from afar. It is time for their populations to feel the costs of war as we have felt it for decades. There are many weaknesses to be exploited and avenues of approach. To you is left the task of figuring out which is most worthwhile and practical. The price of failure is great, for failure means the loss of our beliefs and lands. • 9. Operation Overlord: The Invasion Of Normandy Invasion D–Day, also known as Operation Overlord, was the largest amphibious invasion in history. That being said, we owe all those soldiers who fought in Normandy everything that we hold dear to us today. Those brave soldiers saved not only us, but all of Western Europe from Adolf Hitler, his German army and the Nazi way to life. The Battle of Normandy began on June 6, 1944 and lasted until August 1944. This did not bring an end to the war in Europe, but with additional hard fought battles, victory was finally within reach. The earliest recorded ceramics were the result of various mixtures and base – combinations, including clay. The twentieth century witnessed the design of amalgamated, new ceramic materials that are still used extensively in the manufacture of semiconductors. France was keeping their borders well protected, since Germany was getting closer in. France's 800,000–man standing army was thought at the time to be the most powerful in Europe. But since they stayed in the defense, Germany moved in with less divisions, but strategically took Paris in June 14th, that later followed a treaty with France and Germany. On June 10th, the Italians declared war on Great Britain and France. That same day next month, July 10th, it is said to be the start of the Battle of Britain. Kirkland United States Sergeant Major Academy Class 42 SGM Perez 15 January 2017 Abstract During World War II, many African American Soldiers served the country with distinction. Most African Americans were assigned to non–combat units and worked in supply, maintenance and transportation jobs behind the front lines, but late in the war heavy troop losses forced the military to place more African American Soldiers into combat jobs as both commissioned officers and enlisted Soldiers. This went against long held beliefs that the black Soldier did not have what it took to be combat Soldiers. Soldiers in segregated units like the 92nd Division, the 761st Tank Battalion, the more famous Tuskegee Airmen and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 761st Tank Battalion was an independent tank battalion made up of African American enlisted Soldiers led by mostly Caucasian American officers. They were forbidden to serve alongside "white" Soldiers by federal law and the Army wouldn't desegregate until after World War II. While American military leaders had reservations about using African American Soldiers in combat (MacGregor, 1981), when given the opportunity they displayed great heroism and combat ability because they wanted to show their love for their country and earn the respect of the American people, facing prejudices and racism from the highest levels of the military leadership; they fought not only against the enemies of the United States but against racism from both the American people and military members both at home and while stationed overseas. The Black Panthers When given the opportunity in combat the segregated units displayed great heroism and combat ability, showing their love of country and fighting to earn the respect of their American compatriots and the American people. General Lesley J. McNair, the commander of Army Ground Forces, successfully argued that "colored" units should be employed in combat. At McNair 's suggestion, the US Army began to experiment with segregated combat units in 1941; the program was supported by, and given national exposure in, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Battle Of The War Forever The date is July 6, 1944. A young Solider in his early 20's armed with a pair of wire cutters, a rifle, and explosives makes his way through Omaha Beach, through countless obstacles (Kennedy, 2012). This young Solider has a very important job. Behind him are thousands of infantrymen, desperately fighting their way up a hill; it is up to him to clear the way. However, In front of him are rows of mines, hedgehogs, wire obstacles, and barricades. He must complete these tasks all while receiving heavy fire. You see he is no ordinary Soldier, he is a Combat Engineer, and what he does here today will change the tides of the war forever (Kennedy, 2012). This engineer is well trained and comes from a long line of warriors who have paved the way for him, laying down the groundwork for what he must accomplish here today. The Combat Engineers can trace their lineage back to the 16th of June 1775. The first Chief Engineer was Colonel Richard Gridley, who was assigned by General George Washington (usace.army.mil, n.d.). In 1779 congress would establish the first official Corp of Engineers. The Corps of Engineers first task was to build fortifications near Boston at Bunker Hill to reinforce the camp. At the time the Corps of Engineers was mostly composed of French subjects who had been hired by General Washington from the service of Louis XVI (usace.army.mil, n.d.). • 21. A Comparison of Guido and Dora Orefice in the Film Life Is... The characters of Guido and Dora Orefice, from the Italian film "Life is Beautiful" have many differences in their personalities and backgrounds but are very similar in some important ways. They are both strong–willed, independent, and have strong family values. Guido is a Jewish man, who is presumably poor because the beginning of the film deals with him attempting to find a job. He eventually finds one as a waiter, which suits his personality because he is the type of person that always wants to please others and make them happy. Despite the prejudice he receives for being Jewish he is a very happy and good–humored person. Dora on the other hand, grew up in very different circumstances. She is not Jewish, probably Christian, and is from a fairly wealthy family. She is already engaged to another man, the man who refused Guido a job after he accidentally dropped eggs on his head. She is a somewhat reserved teacher and seems to be a very responsible, well–behaved, and compliant woman, until she meets Guido that is. Guido falls in love with her immediately when he meets her. Dora doesn't appear to fall in love as instantaneously as Guido does but she eventually fall for him and she asks him to take her away. "One of the greatest advantages to the friendly forces is advance notice of an impending attack. This allows the commander to make all–out preparations and to be at maximum readiness when the attack occurs." (BACM Research, 2009) Leadership played a major role in this battle. Even though much is not said about the Noncommissioned Officers, plenty is said about the officers in command. They were willing to take control and adjust the mission using the proper chain of command in order to disseminate the changes to the lowest level. The VC lost approximately 600 Soldiers, US had approximately 35 wounded and 9 Soldiers killed in action, and the ARVN had approximately 400 dead and wounded Soldiers. The fighting force in the battle was 250,000 Germans which included 14 German infantry divisions guarded by four Panzer tank divisions against a mere 80,000 Americans. The first assault happened on December 16, 1944, on a thinly guarded 85 mile stretch from Echternach in the south to Monschau in the north in the Ardennes Mountains, called the Ghost Front. High commanding officers were read into the operation. By the end of December 7th, the first load of supplies was loaded on trains and on the way to the Ardennes to ensure all the supplies they would need for the operation were stockpiled and on December 11th the buildup was complete. But there is little agreement over when the twentieth century c.e. arrived, and there were several points both before the year 2000 (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany, the surge of globalization from the mid–1990s) and afterward (9/11, or the global recession of 2008) when one could quite plausibly argue that a new era had begun. A compelling case can be made for viewing the decades of the global scramble for colonies after 1870 as a predictable culmination of the long nineteenth century, which was ushered in by the industrial and political revolutions of the late 1700s. But at the same time, without serious attention to the processes and misguided policies that led to decades of agrarian and industrial depression from the late 1860s to the 1890s, as well as the social tensions and political rivalries that generated and were in turn fed by imperialist expansionism, one cannot begin to comprehend the causes and consequences of the Great War that began in 1914. Moss, commander of the 367th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Division, stated, "As fighting troops, the Negro must be rated as second–class material, this primarily to his inferior intelligence and lack of mental and moral qualities." Colonel Perry L. Miles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In March 1941, 98 black enlisted men reported to Fort Knox, Ky., from Fort Custer, Mich., for armored warfare training with the 758th Tank Battalion (light). The pioneer black tankers trained in light tank operations, mechanics and related phases of mechanized warfare, as enlisted men from other Army units joined their ranks. The 758th trained on the M–5 light tank, which carried a crew of four. Powered by twin Cadillac engines, it could reach a maximum speed of 40 mph and had an open–road cruising range of 172 miles. It was armed with a .30 caliber machine gun mounted to fire along the same axis as the tank's main armament, a 37mm cannon. When the tracer bullets from the .30 caliber registered on a target, the cannon would be fired, hopefully scoring a direct hit. The M–5 was also armed with two more .30–caliber machine guns, one on the turret and one in the bow. The light tank was employed to provide fire support, mobility and crew protection in screening and reconnaissance missions. The 5th Tank Group, commanded by Colonel LeRoy Nichols, was to be made up of black enlisted personnel and white officers. With the 758th Tank Battalion in place, two more tank battalions were needed to complete the 5th Tank Group. On March 15, 1942, the War Department ordered the activation of the 761st Tank Battalion (light) at Camp Claiborne, La., with an authorized strength of 36 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Eisenhower and Patton Comparison Essay General Eisenhower and General Patton: A Comparison Zerrrouk (PN) From a fiercely brave General, who strictly enforces customs, bravery, formalities, and success; to a General with a lighthearted–mood, down to earth attitude, a steadfast courage, and a integrity and decency to lead the nations of the world into battle; while both these legendary Generals fought on the same side, both General S. Patton and General D. Eisenhower were distinctly different Generals. This paper seeks to outline the differences and similarities between the two Generals by taking a close look at their lives, and the impacts they had on WWII. George S. Patton was born on November 11th, 1885, in San Gabriel California. As Patton grew older, he developed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this action he was stripped of his command over the 2nd Armored Division in Africa. Patton could not stand to have a soldier that was anything less than what he thought a true soldier should represent. Patton believes that "courage and fear are phenomena which can be governed by training and discipline," and that fear is lost through intense training and patriotism. Patton did not hate his men, but he didn't want to see his soldiers hospitalized as injured men with battle fatigue or neurosis, but as a spectacle of American bravery. Visiting his troops in the hospital got him emotional and he state once that, "They're the best damned soldiers the world has ever seen. One day I bawl the hell out of them and the next I weep over them." Patton was relieved of active duty until he was summoned by Eisenhower to lead the 3rd American army in the breakthrough Normandy. Eisenhower, more than anybody, knew the talents that Patton had in war; and with the 3rd American Army, Patton cut through the German lines all the way to Rennes, and then to Nantes, and then stopped at Metz for gas and munitions. Patton was always a step ahead of everyone – especially the Germans. After the push stopped, Patton was ordered to move from Saar and attack General Von Rundstedt – which was deemed impossible by others but not Patton. After Rundstedt was captured, Rundstedt gave a high praise to Patton for his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Why The Battle Of The Bulge The Battle of the Bulge, or Ardennen Offensive was a major German offensive. On December 16, 1944 towards the end of World War II the battle was the only major German offensive of the war, launched by Adolf Hitler in order to attempt to reverse the decrease in his fortunes that had started on D–ay. He intended to accomplish this by trying to split Allied troops through an assault located within the Ardennes Forest of Belgium, destroying enemy troops located here. He believed would ensure the allies to form a peace treaty that would favor the Axis Powers. The attack in the Ardennes Forest did not result in Hitler's predicted outcome. The Ardennes Forest, was a dense forest with only a few roads that stretched seventy–five miles, these roads were being help by four inexperienced and tired American divisions. Using them element of surprise the German troops attacked the forest on December 16, 1944. The American divisions, desperately sought to stop advancing German troops. • 36. Us Soldiers And Nazi Concentration Camps US Soldiers ' Reaction to Nazi Concentration Camps "When we walked through those gates...1 saw in front of me the walking dead. There they stood. They were skin and bone. They had skeletal faces with deep set eyes. Their heads had been clean shaved. They were holding each other for stability. I couldn't understand this. I just couldn't. So I walked around the camp; I wanted to...understand more. I went to a building where they stored body parts from 'medical experiments' in jars of formaldehyde. I saw fingers and eyes and the hearts and genitals. I saw mounds of little children's clothing. Little children who didn't survive. I saw...all of those things that belong to little children. But I never saw a child....If this could happen here, it could happen anywhere. It could happen to me. .one often wonder what I would have done if, in 1939, my family and I had been caught up in this and for all those years nobody, not nobody, would help us. I would have been a bitter man..." This statement was spoken by Leon Ball, a liberator of Buchenwald, the first concentration camp to be discovered by the American forces ("Oh, No, It Can't Be"). When the United States army discovered the concentration camps, it refuted their previous thoughts that everything heard was exaggerated; these exaggerations were now seen as understatements. Though the troops who had seen the horrific images of the camps and survivors had much sympathy for the survivors, it was lacking that sympathy once the United States ...
