INTRODUCTION
Motivation is derived from Latin word “ Movere” means “to move”. It is a psychological process.
It is a inner state that activates or moves that directs towards goals. This motivation lies in
relationship between needs and goals. Man has capacity to work but no willingness to work and
hence it is needed. It is an effective instrument of manager in inspiring the workforce and creating
motivation.
Major task of every manager is to motivate his subordinates. Some employees may be
capable of doing work and nothing can be achieved. So manager has to use appropriate use of
motivation tools to be motivated. It plays significant role and also for rapid growth.
Motivation is a Process of stimulating people to action to accomplish desired goals.
INDUSTRY PROFILE
The telecom industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India. The Indian mobile
economy is rapidly growing and will contribute to India’s GDP. History of Indian telecom started
in 1851 when the first operational landlines were laid by Government near Calcutta. Telephone
services were introduced in India in 1881. Major sectors of Indian telecommunication industry are
telephone, internet and television broadcast. India is currently the world’s second largest
telecommunication market with a subscriber base of 1.17 billion as on 31st July 2018.
COMPANY PROFILE
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) formed in October, 2000.It is an Indian stated
owned telecommunications company headquartered in New Delhi, India. It is the fourth largest
telephony provider in India, and also a provider of Broadband services. BSNL is the world’s
seventh largest Telecommunications company providing comprehensive range of telecom services
in India.
It offers various telecom services, such as postpaid, prepaid mobile services, landline
telephony services, GPRS and messaging. Within the span of 5yrs it has become one of the largest
public sector units in India.
NEED FOR THE STUDY
In today’s market, we can see that the telecommunication industry is booming. So the
organizational goals achieved only through the effective performance of each and every employee
in an organization. So it is necessary to get the talented human resources and need to retain them.
In this context motivation of employee’s plays a major role. THE STUDY OF EMPLOYEE
MOTIVATION in BSNL is taken so that it will be helpful to reach organization to suggest if any
to increase the motivational tools in the company and employees to be more productive than
before.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
 To access the employee motivation level in the BSNL organization.
 To identify factors that motivates employees.
 To study the employee job satisfaction and financial motivation in the organization.
LIMITATIONS
 Most of the financial information was considered confidential; the access to theinformation
was restricted.
 The results of the study are limited to the available information.
 Due to frequent camps and workload of the staff in the organization much time could not be
spared by them for the project.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY:
Design : Descriptive in nature
Method : Survey Method
Instrument : Well structured questionnaire
Research Population : Employees at BSNL Kadapa
Sample Size : 100 employees of BSNL Kadapa
Sampling procedure : Non probabilistic convenience
Data Source : Primary data & secondary data
Primary Data : Collected information through Questionnaire, Observation….etc
Secondary Data : Collected information through Internet, books & records of BSNL
Statistical Tool : Simple Percentage method& Weighted Mean.
FINDINGS
 Management is really interested in motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.56.
 Financial incentives motivating employees with the weighted mean of 2.88.
 Non financial incentives motivating employees with the weighted mean of 3.02.
 Incentives provided by the organization motivating employees for effective job
performance with the weighted mean of 3.74.
 Management allows employee’s involvement in decision making motivates them to
perform challenging assignments with the weighted mean of 4.31.
 Salary increases motivates employees to perform better and contribute more to the
achievement of organizational goals with weighted mean of 4.19.
 Career growth and development opportunities in the form of promotion motivate
employees to retain for longer period of time in the organization with the weighted mean
of 3.64.
 Effective leave policy with the consideration of minimum employee needs and
requirements boost up the employee morale with the weighted mean of 3.46.
 Motivational talks by eminent industry experts motivate employee with the weighted mean
of 3.88.
 Recognition from top management motivates talented employees in the organization with
the weighted mean of 4.39.
 Job security in the company motivates employees with the weighted mean of 4.63.
 Good relationships with the co-workers motivate employees with the weighted mean of
4.66.
 Good safety measures adopted in the organization motivating employees with the weighted
mean of 4.59.
 Performance appraisal activates helpful in motivating employees with the weighted mean
of 4.43.
 Financial rewards motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.20.
 Praise and acknowledgement motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.28.
 Congenial working environment (Management style, benefits, perks) motivates employees
with the weighted mean of 4.69.
 Respondents agreed that they enjoy the work every day and performing their best with the
weighted mean of 4.68.
 Respondents stated that their work fulfills their basic needs with the weighted mean of
4.13.
 Clarity regarding common goals of the company motivates employees to contribute their
best with the weighted mean of 4.62.
 Two way communications motivates employees to express their opinion and ideas in free
environment with the weighted mean of 4.73.
 Appreciation for challenging achievements from manager motivates employees with the
weighted mean of 3.69.
 Administrative practices (flexible working hours, dress code, and vacation
schedule)motivate employees with the weighted mean of 4.45.
 Responsibility on motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.72.
 Challenging work itself motivates employees with the weighted mean of 4.46.
Interesting tasks motivates employees with the weighted mean of 4.83.
SUGGESTIONS
 Employee empowerment may be provided to employees in achieving high employee
satisfaction and motivation.
 Fringe benefits may be provided to improve employee morale, achieving the desired unity
and concern for employee well being with reduction in HR cost
 Career planning may be provided to employees which refers to the process of identifying
and accomplishing the employees career objective through systematic way of skill
identification assessment and development.

  • 2. INTRODUCTION Motivation is derived from Latin word “ Movere” means “to move”. It is a psychological process. It is a inner state that activates or moves that directs towards goals. This motivation lies in relationship between needs and goals. Man has capacity to work but no willingness to work and hence it is needed. It is an effective instrument of manager in inspiring the workforce and creating motivation. Major task of every manager is to motivate his subordinates. Some employees may be capable of doing work and nothing can be achieved. So manager has to use appropriate use of motivation tools to be motivated. It plays significant role and also for rapid growth. Motivation is a Process of stimulating people to action to accomplish desired goals. INDUSTRY PROFILE The telecom industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India. The Indian mobile economy is rapidly growing and will contribute to India’s GDP. History of Indian telecom started in 1851 when the first operational landlines were laid by Government near Calcutta. Telephone services were introduced in India in 1881. Major sectors of Indian telecommunication industry are telephone, internet and television broadcast. India is currently the world’s second largest telecommunication market with a subscriber base of 1.17 billion as on 31st July 2018. COMPANY PROFILE Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) formed in October, 2000.It is an Indian stated owned telecommunications company headquartered in New Delhi, India. It is the fourth largest telephony provider in India, and also a provider of Broadband services. BSNL is the world’s seventh largest Telecommunications company providing comprehensive range of telecom services in India. It offers various telecom services, such as postpaid, prepaid mobile services, landline telephony services, GPRS and messaging. Within the span of 5yrs it has become one of the largest public sector units in India.
  • 3. NEED FOR THE STUDY In today’s market, we can see that the telecommunication industry is booming. So the organizational goals achieved only through the effective performance of each and every employee in an organization. So it is necessary to get the talented human resources and need to retain them. In this context motivation of employee’s plays a major role. THE STUDY OF EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION in BSNL is taken so that it will be helpful to reach organization to suggest if any to increase the motivational tools in the company and employees to be more productive than before. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY  To access the employee motivation level in the BSNL organization.  To identify factors that motivates employees.  To study the employee job satisfaction and financial motivation in the organization. LIMITATIONS  Most of the financial information was considered confidential; the access to theinformation was restricted.  The results of the study are limited to the available information.  Due to frequent camps and workload of the staff in the organization much time could not be spared by them for the project. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY: Design : Descriptive in nature Method : Survey Method Instrument : Well structured questionnaire Research Population : Employees at BSNL Kadapa Sample Size : 100 employees of BSNL Kadapa

FINDINGS  Management is really interested in motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.56.  Financial incentives motivating employees with the weighted mean of 2.88.  Non financial incentives motivating employees with the weighted mean of 3.02.  Incentives provided by the organization motivating employees for effective job performance with the weighted mean of 3.74.  Management allows employee’s involvement in decision making motivates them to perform challenging assignments with the weighted mean of 4.31.  Salary increases motivates employees to perform better and contribute more to the achievement of organizational goals with weighted mean of 4.19.  Career growth and development opportunities in the form of promotion motivate employees to retain for longer period of time in the organization with the weighted mean of 3.64.  Effective leave policy with the consideration of minimum employee needs and requirements boost up the employee morale with the weighted mean of 3.46.  Motivational talks by eminent industry experts motivate employee with the weighted mean of 3.88.  Recognition from top management motivates talented employees in the organization with the weighted mean of 4.39.  Job security in the company motivates employees with the weighted mean of 4.63.  Good relationships with the co-workers motivate employees with the weighted mean of 4.66.  Good safety measures adopted in the organization motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.59.  Performance appraisal activates helpful in motivating employees with the weighted mean
  • 5. of 4.43.  Financial rewards motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.20.  Praise and acknowledgement motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.28.  Congenial working environment (Management style, benefits, perks) motivates employees with the weighted mean of 4.69.  Respondents agreed that they enjoy the work every day and performing their best with the weighted mean of 4.68.  Respondents stated that their work fulfills their basic needs with the weighted mean of 4.13.  Clarity regarding common goals of the company motivates employees to contribute their best with the weighted mean of 4.62.  Two way communications motivates employees to express their opinion and ideas in free environment with the weighted mean of 4.73.  Appreciation for challenging achievements from manager motivates employees with the weighted mean of 3.69.  Administrative practices (flexible working hours, dress code, and vacation schedule)motivate employees with the weighted mean of 4.45.  Responsibility on motivating employees with the weighted mean of 4.72.  Challenging work itself motivates employees with the weighted mean of 4.46. Interesting tasks motivates employees with the weighted mean of 4.83. SUGGESTIONS  Employee empowerment may be provided to employees in achieving high employee satisfaction and motivation.  Fringe benefits may be provided to improve employee morale, achieving the desired unity and concern for employee well being with reduction in HR cost  Career planning may be provided to employees which refers to the process of identifying and accomplishing the employees career objective through systematic way of skill identification assessment and development.
