This document discusses two types of symmetry: line symmetry and point symmetry. Line symmetry occurs when an object can be folded in half and one side is the mirror image of the other. An object has point symmetry when every part has a matching part the same distance from the central point but in the opposite direction, with the central point being the origin of symmetry. Examples of objects exhibiting these types of symmetry are shown. The document was created by Aryan Aditya Nanda, a 7th grade student at North Point School in India, for a school project on symmetry.

SYMMETRY
 Symmetry is when an object has two or
more equal sides when split in half or in
smaller pieces.
 Something is symmetrical when it is
the same on both sides. A shape
has symmetry if a central dividing line
(a mirror line) can be drawn on it, to
show that both sides of the shape are
exactly the same.

LINE SYMMETRY
 A shape has line symmetry when
one half of it is the mirror image
of the other half.
 If a shape can be folded in half so
that one half fits exactly on top of
the other, then we say that the
shape has got line symmetry .

POINT SYMMETRY
 Point Symmetry is when every part
has a matching part: the same
distance from the central point. but
in the opposite direction.
 Point Symmetry is sometimes
called Origin Symmetry, because
the "Origin" is the central point
about which the shape is
symmetrical.
