2. Recent innovations in Human-Computer Interaction
(HCI) have been redefining the interfaces between
humans and devices
The boundary between the human body and interfaces
is blurring, as we enter the era of human-interfaces1
Introduction
1 The term was presented by Tovi Grossman at the colloquium
3. Project Goal
Gesture Controller is a human-interface: control your
phone using hand gestures
Moto 360 will detect hand gestures - used to control
the phone
4. Proposed Features
Predefined Gestures
Built-in gestures:
swiping right or left
moving the hand up and down.
Identify meaningful gestures through trial and error
Programmable Gestures
Users can add custom gestures
App accepts/denies new gesture based on
distinguishability against stored gestures
5. Project Components
There are two major components to the project:
1. Gesture Detection
We will have to create a dictionary of gestures that can
be recognized and build a classifier
To allow user-defined gestures, the classifier has to be
one that can be updated and automatically tested to see
if the different classes remain separable
2. Communicating commands to the smartphone
Upon detecting a gesture, we must issue the relevant tasks
to the phone
