Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ in the 1st century CE. It began as a sect of Judaism in Jerusalem and has since spread around the world, with over 2 billion adherents today. Christianity is divided into branches such as Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Protestantism. Christians worship in churches and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as laid out in the Bible. Major beliefs include that Jesus was the son of God, suffered and died for humanity's sins, and rose from the dead. Important holidays are Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost.
