Sweden maintained neutrality during World War 2 under the social democratic government led by Prime Minister Per Albin Hansson. Sweden avoided attacks from Germany by not assisting neighboring countries. The majority of the Swedish population supported remaining neutral to avoid warfare, famine, and maintain exports of iron ore to Germany. However, Sweden's neutrality was questioned as it allowed Germany to transport troops and materials across Sweden and ended up affecting Sweden's relationships with other countries.
