Collaboration in Öresund is an example of new patterns of Social Innovation taking place on many different organizational levels. Presentation today in a seminar at Nordregio (www.nordregio.se)
Course development - An attempt to break the monotony of traditional universi...Per Olof Arnäs
This presents a course development project that I have been working on for the better part of 2013. The presentation is a part of a course that I am taking myself in pedagogical development.
There are some new (for me at least) teaching practices in there such as a role-based case project and risk/game based scoring of exams etc.
This accepted paper will be presented in the RSA Regional Studies Association Conference that will take place in Izmir, Turkey, from 15th to 18th June.
This paper examines two contrarily complementary EU cross border city-region case studies by applying the 5-System City-Region analytical framework discussed at the RSA 2013 Winter Conference (Calzada, 2013). On the one hand, the case of the Basque Country (OECD, 2013) nationalistic city-region (Calzada, 2011) in between Spain and France nation-states reflects surprisingly low cross border territorial development strategic synergies. On the other hand, in contrast, the case of the Oresund non-nationalistic city-region (OECD, 2013) shows a highly cooperative and fluent cross-border dynamic that started in 2000.

Sustainable Urban Transport Planning Considering Different Stakeholder Groups...BME
Sustainable urban transport requires smart and environmentally-friendly technical solutions. It also needs to meet the demands of different user groups, including current and potential future users, in order to avoid opposition of the citizens and to support sustainable development decisions. While these requirements are well-known, conducting full surveys of user needs and preferences are tedious and costly, and the interests of different user groups may be contradictory. We therefore developed a methodology based on the prevalent Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is capable of dealing with the inconsistencies and uncertainties of users’ responses by applying an Interval Analytic Hierarchy Process (IAHP) through comparing the results of passengers to reference stakeholder groups. For a case study in Mersin, a coastal city in southern Turkey with 1.7 Million inhabitants, three groups were surveyed with questionnaires: 40 users of the public transport system, 40 non-users, and 17 experts. Based on interval pairwise comparison matrices, consisting of whole judgments of all groups, the IAHP methodology could attain a consensual preference ranking for a future public transportation system between the three groups. A sensitivity analysis revealed that the factor ranking was very stable.
This brochure is a first attempt to demonstrate what has been
achieved by transnational cooperation between transport projects in the Baltic Sea Region during the funding period 2007-2013. This brochures makes the results of each of the eight projects presented available for a wider group of stakeholders.
Strong in unity, the projects address the macro-regional perspective of transport challenges and solutions towards decision and policy makers. Furthermore, work done by the
cluster consortium will be further coordinated with national ministries.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

•
Founded as the International
Center for Business and
Politics in 2004
Became a Department at
CBS. Susana Borras HoD
Focus on ”political economy”
in a broad sense, i.e.
intersection between
business and politics;
markets and governance;
often with an international
perspective on corporations
and regulatory structures
3.
4.
5. Purpose & methodology
The purpose of this theme is to understand the relationship between new
organizational forms (such as privatized corporations and public-private
partnerships), transport planning processes, and sustainable transport
performance.
The main methodology is to do comparative case studies, including process
tracing
The analysis will include document analysis and semi-structured interviews
with key informants.
6. Analytical framework
The analytical framework draws its inspiration from institutional theory in
comparative political economy and theories of changing organizational
forms in a new governance perspective (Osborne, 2010).
The transport sector continues to undergo significant institutional changes.
During the era of New Public Management (NPM), services have been
outsourced to private sector contractors who are pursuing performance
management targets.
Recently, governments and private sector companies have formed joint
ventures and public-private partnerships for new opportunities in
transport management.
Post-NPM reforms have emphasized the need of coordination and regulatory
reforms (Sørensen & Longva 2011).
9. Analytical framework (3)
Institutional change in the New Public Management era: more focus on markets
Marketization (= regulated markets)
Management (make managers manage)
New governance tools that challenge ”planning”
Contracts
Independent regulatory
agencies
Partnerships and private
finance?
National sustainable transport planning
New conditions for planning: contracts and
regulatory agencies
Sustainability through government or
corporations?
10. Can national sustainable transport planning happen in a
competitive, but regulated market with (international)
corporations?
National
sustainable
transport
planning
International
markets for
transport infrastructure and mobility
(led by) corporate managers?
11. Core results (expected)
The core results of the theme will be
a comparative analysis of institutional
frameworks of national transport
planning in selected countries leading
to improved knowledge of institutional
change, sustainable transport
performance and politics.
