This Project is all about agriculture techniques and ideas in which they can be sustained for future. Its main objective is to communicate about the methods and benefits of Sustainable Agriculture.
2. INTRODUCTION
• Sustainable agriculture is the production
of food, fiber, or other plant or animal
products using farming techniques that
protect the environment, public health,
human communities, and animal welfare.
4. BENEFITS
• Sustainable agriculture maintains the fertility of
soil.
• It reduces land degradation and soil erosion.
• It aim at reducing water consumption in farming
• It increases the biodiversity of an area.
5. METHODS
• Crop rotation.
• Cover crops.
• Soil enrichment.
• Natural pest predators.
• Integrated pest management.
6. CROP ROTATION
• Crop rotation is the practice of growing a series of
dissimilar or different types of crops in the same area
in sequenced seasons to maintain the fertility of soil.
7. COVER CROPS
• A cover crop is a type of plant grown primarily to
suppress weeds, manage soil erosion and
improve soil fertility and quality.
Ex. Sorghum, clover, etc.
8. SOIL ENRICHMENT
• It is a process of adding suppliments in the soil
to increase its quality and productivity.
Ex. Compost and lime.
9. NATURAL PEST PREDATORS
• It is a method of controlling pests like- insects
and weed, using other organisms(predators)
which are their enemies.
10. INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT
• IPM is an ecosystem-based strategy that
focuses on long-term prevention of pests or
their damage through a combination of
techniques such as biological control and
modification of cultural techniques.
12. NATIONAL MISSION FOR
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
(NMSA)
• NMSA derives its mandate from Sustainable
Agriculture Mission which is one of the eight
Missions outlined under National Action Plan
on Climate Change (NAPCC).
• The focus of NMSA will be to infuse the
judicious utilization of resources of commons
through community based approach.
13. OBJECTIVES OF (NMSA)
• To conserve natural resources through appropriate
soil and moisture conservation measures.
• To make agriculture more productive, sustainable,
remunerative and climate resilient by promoting
location specific Integrated/Composite Farming
Systems.
• To optimize utilization of water resources through
efficient water management to expand coverage for
achieving ‘more crop per drop.
