With India going into elections in 2014, there’s been a constant buzz and unavoidable conversations about Politics. People have shifted from indifference & resentment towards politics, to talking about the subject & finally finding solutions. With majority of Indians comprising of the Youth, we believed they held the key to unlocking the future of politics; & their thought process is one, that no longer can the Political Parties ignore.
It’s this idea that inspired us to go ahead with our research which is- “To understand the Voting Behavior of the Urban Youth”.

Study Participants Answers to Interview Questions
Participant #1:
1. What are the disparities between jail and youth rehabilitation for African American offenders?
a. African Americans will be imprisoned more than their white counterparts who will be given rehabilitation, institutional racism exists, and the system will spend more man hours and time dealing with white offenders than black offenders.
2. What are some social issues that African American juveniles are faced with?
a. Sociocultural stigmas, single-parent households, inadequate educational systems, poor role models, and single-parent households
3. Why are African American male juveniles not offered other means of rehabilitative punishments?
a. The New Jim Crow is our correctional system, which seeks to fill jail cells by incarcerating more black and Latino people who are then utilized as enslaved people in the system for huge corporations and the US Government. The system indicates they are not receptive and will not change.
4. What effects does the existing jail and punishment system have on this population?
a. Demeaning and discouraging—we should fund educational aid, mental health services, and instruction. Providing people with helpful tools, role models, and direction will also help them become contributing members of society
Participant #2:
1. Youth rehabilitation centers should provide mechanisms to prevent offenders from committing crimes but in order to effectively do that the differences amongst AA juveniles and other races must be addressed, while jail just allows for a separation from society to think about the crime.
2. African American male juveniles are faced with a predetermined
perception of being criminals as well as a lack of resources in their communities to educate them on the different career paths & trades that exist.
3. The funding doesn’t exist to provide other rehabilitative opportunities in AA communities.
4. The existing punishment system allows offenders to be separated from the public but it doesn’t provide them with any resources to be successful once their time is complete. Not addressing the underlying issues of how they entered the system as well as how to they can live a successful life after now being labeled as a criminal normally results in repeat offenders.
Participant #3:
1. The youth aren’t getting the proper guidance, mental healthcare and attentiveness in jail. They’re already “written off” which leads to them believing what they’re being taught and increasing the likelihood of them becoming repeat offenders. In youth rehab, you’re given a second chance, you’re being taught how to manage your mental and emotional state. You are being prepared for the world.
2. Prejudice. Are seen as thugs, no good. Etc. don’t have proper resources to get them back on their feet. Difficulty getting jobs, getting into school once released.
3. Unsure, but I’m sure it’s race.
4. You can become in.
This document summarizes research from focus groups exploring using focus groups as a healthy sexuality intervention for gay, bisexual, and queer adolescent males. Four online focus groups over 3 days provided social support and information to increase participants' motivation and skills. Sexually inexperienced participants reported the focus groups helped them feel less alone and reinforced waiting for the right person for sex. Sexually experienced participants said the groups reinforced safe sex practices and made them more open to discussing sexuality. Overall, the focus groups appeared to have a positive effect and further research is warranted to quantify their influence on healthy sexual behaviors.

PART 1: PERSONAL REFLECTION
TOPIC: What is one problem, issue, or need in the world, or in your own community, that you care a lot about?
Racism is one of the biggest issues in the world, and a lot of countries are suffering from it. The issue is not new, and we can see the old history even back in the 13th century. The classification on the basis of racism is always offending. The people are made by the same Lord, they have the same organs even their color and creed are not responsible for the abilities and talents they have, but still, the world has observed a lot of differentiation among the people. The problem is prominent in the United States of America, where more than half of the population nearly 54% say that race relations have made things worse. The differentiation between white and black have led the communities to be made, and it creates an atmosphere of hate among the people. Back in the 13th century, an amendment was made in the constitution, and it stated that there will be no slavery from onwards. There were a lot of mixed reviews on the amendment because it was terrible for some communities to accept that black people will now be equal to them. If we see the circumstances in the world, we will come to know that there is an extreme need to eradicate the concept of racism from the world. Black people should be accepted and should be given their rights. There are a lot of heroes who have laid down their lives in the struggle to see equality in different races. The differentiation is not only made by the Americans, but it has been seen in many other countries where the poor and lower casts are looked upon by others. The world needs to understand that everyone is important, everyone is equal, and all of us got equal chances to make the progress and to move ahead in life.
This issue is important to me because being the student and being the responsible citizen, it is my part of my duty that I must remind the people that every one of you is important, and the concept of racism has got no value now. There is a lot of struggle needed to make it understand and to make it realize to everyone that racism should be ended. It is destroying beautiful relationships and friendships. The world is a place of peace, and it should be made peaceful for everyone instead of promoting racism.
PERSONAL CONNECTION: Why is this particular issue important to you? Is there something in your life experience or academic studies that relates?

The document discusses how social identity impacts education. It notes that the U.S. is becoming more culturally and ethnically diverse, and by 2100 minorities will be the majority. Public schools are also becoming more diverse. Teachers must prepare students to be tolerant of diversity and interact well in diverse environments. No student should feel discriminated against due to their social identities.

The document discusses the social problem of poverty and how it relates to incarceration rates among minority groups. It argues that poverty predisposes disadvantaged groups like African Americans and Latinos to incarceration due to racial biases in policing and the criminal justice system. Poverty contributes to higher crime rates in poor neighborhoods and lack of access to resources like education and jobs. Discrimination in employment also makes it harder for disadvantaged groups to escape poverty, further increasing their likelihood of engaging in criminal behavior and incarceration.

State of Artificial intelligence Report 2023kuntobimo2016
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a multidisciplinary field of science and engineering whose goal is to create intelligent machines.
We believe that AI will be a force multiplier on technological progress in our increasingly digital, data-driven world. This is because everything around us today, ranging from culture to consumer products, is a product of intelligence.
The State of AI Report is now in its sixth year. Consider this report as a compilation of the most interesting things we’ve seen with a goal of triggering an informed conversation about the state of AI and its implication for the future.
We consider the following key dimensions in our report:
Research: Technology breakthroughs and their capabilities.
Industry: Areas of commercial application for AI and its business impact.
Politics: Regulation of AI, its economic implications and the evolving geopolitics of AI.
Safety: Identifying and mitigating catastrophic risks that highly-capable future AI systems could pose to us.
Predictions: What we believe will happen in the next 12 months and a 2022 performance review to keep us honest.
ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.

You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Every six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of American industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college graduates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I; we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the wilful blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technology. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild ride.
Let me tell you what we see.

Executive Summary
From ages, gender discrimination has been a highlighted issue in the way of leading
life. On time basis, it has captured over different factors, starting from complexion
till job sectors. Due to discrimination, people gets demotivated and often suffers
depression. We have carried out a survey, over discrimination in all sectors, in order
to decipher and analyze its impact in our society.
In this survey, we have randomly chosen people of ages above 16 of both genders, to
know their experience and get a better assumption that in what sectors they faced
discrimination and in which ways, so that we can take enough measures to prevent
it from rooting in our society. Mainly, people of ages 16 and above can understand
when being discriminated while they socialize vastly. The survey mainly ask about
their own personal experience with discrimination.
From this survey, we could assume that in average mostly people faced
discrimination. The result shows the widespread experiences of discrimination for
many groups in Bangladesh, across many area of life. The findings illustrate the
significantly different manifestations and experiences of discrimination across
different groups and how it had harmful effect on health and wellbeing.
We have filed the data in the form of bar chart and pie chart which shows the
responses that were provided by the participants of the research. We got to know
about their point of view and what they actually think or would suggest for the
society regarding the current issues of discrimination and if we work accordingly,
we can stop discrimination spreading out to a better extent.

Chapter 1: Introduction
(a) Background:
In human social behavior, discrimination is treatment or consideration of, or making
a distinction towards, a person based on the group, class, or category to which the
person is perceived to belong. These include age, caste, color, criminal record,
height, disability, ethnicity, family status, gender identity, generation, genetic
characteristics, marital status, nationality, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and
social class. Discrimination consists of treatment of an individual or group, based on
their actual or perceived membership in a certain group or social category, "in a way
that is worse than the way people are usually treated".
There is also a term known as reverse discrimination. Reverse discrimination is
discrimination against members of a dominant or majority group, in favor of
members of a minority or historically disadvantaged group. Groups may be defined
in terms of disability, ethnicity, family status, gender identity, nationality, race,
religion, sex, and sexual orientation, or other factors.
There is no less of discrimination in Bangladesh. Every person almost for once in a
lifetime got discriminated for different reasons. In educational institute, home or
workplace everywhere someone is being discriminated. One of the biggest
discrimination is gender discrimination in our country. Some other reasons can be
religious beliefs, attire, personal choice, complexion, social class etc. There isn’t any
specific reason for someone to discriminate or bully someone else. Though most of
the time superiority and insecurity trigger discrimination.
At this stage of our social life it is high time to talk about discrimination and get to
know about people’s point of view in this issue. As the effects of discrimination can
get worse sometimes. It ranges from depression to anxiety, drug abuse, low self-
confidence and sometime worst case can be suicide. It will not only help us to
5. Page | 3
understand the core causes of discrimination but also will help to understand
people’s psychology and find ways to lessen discrimination.
(b) Objective of the project:
As we have discussed earlier about discrimination and its effects, it is clearly visible
that by working on this issue we will be able to take steps on improving mental
health of the sufferers as well as make people understand the need of stopping
discrimination. It will be a help for the society by making its people being respected
equally.
Accepting someone with his/her true personality, with his flaws or indifferences,
may however that person, without discriminating him/her is something that will
make a society more efficient and peaceful. For example: giving people work based
on their talent and skills, not on their gender, serving special treatment based on the
need not on the social class etc. In our country most of the people don’t think about
discrimination. They do it as if it is the way of doing work or dealing with people.
They don’t think about the consequences that can happen. But it is high time to let
people know and talk about this issue to make this country peaceful with better
mental health of people.
In this survey we have randomly selected people above the age of 16 who are both
male and female. This helped us to know their point of view about this issue as well
as we also got to know if these people are victims of discrimination or not. These
information will help us to understand the current situation of discrimination and
work through it to create more awareness and let more people think about it and
stand against it.

(c) Main research questions:
1. How many times you were discriminated?
2. Where do you think discrimination occurs the most?
3. What do you think is the core reason for someone to get discriminated?
4. Through what way someone can get most discriminated?
5. What would you do if you see someone being discriminated?
6. What might be the effect of the discrimination?
7. What type of discrimination did you face?
8. How it affected you when you were discriminated?
9. What step did you take to recover from the effects?
10. What could be the cause of someone to discriminate somebody?
11. Have you ever been discriminated for your attire?
12. If yes, for what kind of attire?
13. Is reverse discrimination (giving priority to minority) fair?
14. If yes, then why is it fair?
Chapter 2: Data & methodology:
(a) Type of research
The data was collected by group members. These are primary data. First we choose
random people in different locations and collected those data by ourselves. There
were both qualitative and quantitative data.
(b) Data sources
Our topic ‘discrimination’ is real concern in our society. As no one is perfect,
everyone has been discriminated in some way. So we did our best to find those data
from different location. We did survey to university students, strangers, and even
we ask family members for the survey. It was a great opportunity to learn about
people. We asked students of ULAB. Some students neglected the survey but still
there were some who were willing to do it, shared their personal experience. We
even surveyed people from our home places. It was difficult to find someone who
7. Page | 5
could understand English and actually want to participate. Some strangers who
understand English helped us with the survey. There were students, teachers,
businessmen and office employees. We even asked our parents and siblings to do it.
We needed to know their answers as well.
(c) Method of collective data
We used written questionnaires and surveys to collect those data. First one is
written questionnaires and surveys on printed pages. We printed 40 pages and
distributed to each member consisting 10 pages as we were told so. It was pretty
tough using this method as we had to interact with people and asked to survey.
There was some people who did not want to participate. It was difficult to find
someone who would answer. We were glad that there are people who would want
to share their experience. Secondly we used written questionnaires and surveys on
Google forms. It was easy one as we did not meet any one physically. We just sent
the Google form to people through internet. We use our Facebook account,
WhatsApp to share with friends and family. Some of them were also from outside
the Bangladesh. It was easier to know their experience as we did not meet them, we
were not seeing their expression while answering the questions. Possibly we got to
know their real experience.

Chapter Four: Conclusions and Recommendations:
In conclusion, we were able to gather lots of data from the selected participants who
belonged to different age groups and professions, regarding our research. We were
able get a good idea of their perception towards a current issue which is
discrimination. The participants were able to share their opinions, personal
experiences and convey their ideas through this survey. Through this research we
were able to bring this topic forward to the people and share awareness regarding
the problem. This will help people understand what a big issue discrimination is, in
the present world. How lots of people are being affected by it every day. People will
be more concerned about others and be aware of the surrounding environment.
They will be more likely to defend and talk against discrimination. To bring a new
and complete change to the society, the will power, rational thinking and actions of
the people is highly required. Our main goal is assure equality among people
belonging to different classes of the society.
