Complex System with
• Diverse influence factors
• Numerous stakeholders,
having an impact on handling
those factors
The data economy offers diverse
potentials for innovation and
system transition.
Monitoring of the Data Economy
• Monitoring the development, performance and
impact of the Data Economy for Food Systems
in terms of possible scenarios.
• Derive recommendations or possible solutions.
• Feedback to:
• Policy, to initiate adaptations
• Case studies and stakeholder networks to
test & evaluate
• Aiming to affect current state of play.

Mapping and Improving the Data Economy for Food Systems
Potential of Common European Data Spaces
• Common European data spaces
will allow data from across the EU,
both from the public sector and
businesses, to be exchanged in a
trustworthy manner and at a lower cost,
thereby boosting the development of
new data-driven products and services.
• Data spaces are composed of both
the secure technological infrastructure
and the governance mechanisms.
• Specifically agriculture related data spaces can contribute to a green transition.
• FIWARE open source is considered as basic enabler to realise the technical infrastructure for data spaces.

What is a Data Space?
7
• A Data Space is an infrastructure that enables data transactions between different data ecosystem
parties based on the governance framework of that Data Space.

Data Access vs. Business Models
12
• Case Studies differ regarding:
• Business Models
• Data Access Models
• Baseline for infrastructure
development and definition of
rules and practices for the data
space's governance,
management, and operations
• Governance is closely related to
the Business Model
DSSC Technical Building Blocks
13
• Building blocks can be considered as a kind of minimal interoperability mechanisms.
• What are potential synergies and what are differences between the case studies?
Technical Perspective
14
• Mapping of case studies with the
building blocks
• Input to discuss synergies with other
case studies and external partners
about:
• Common needs
• Joint initiatives
• Potentials to use FIWARE open source
Conclusions
• Monitoring helps to discover the data economy’s value in European food systems.
• Data spaces
• Enable an evolution from Data Exchange to Data Sharing
• Built the baseline for monetization or valorization of data beyond the organization’s borders
• Facilitate data altruism towards a green transformation.
• FIWARE open-source is an excellent enabler for building data spaces.
