enjoyed meeting many of you over the
past few months and discussing our

levyJonny brings with him a passion for education
and professional development. “Ultimately, I
want us to provide skin cancer services which
I would happily and confidently send my own
family to,” he said. Jonny graduated in medicine
and psychology from Imperial College London,
UK, in 2001 and obtained parts I and II of the
Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship in 2004.
He also has more than a decade of experience
in emergency medicine and has gained two
Australian General Practice fellowships and
certificates in Skin Cancer Medicine and
advanced dermoscopy.
“I am always open to your opinions, queries,
troubles and tales of clinical victories,”
he added.
“Feel free to contact me; I am open
to suggestions.”
Australian rates of invasive melanoma - which had
been on the increase since the 1980s are declining
and predicted to keep falling over the next 15 years,
researchers at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research
Institute revealed. Meanwhile New Zealand has the
highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with figures
showing about 50 cases per 100,000 people.
It is more than two decades since a team at the
New York University Medical Center proposed
an ‘ABCD’ mnemonic for clinical melanoma
diagnosis, that was enthusiastically taken up as a
means for detecting melanoma clinically.
It remains the mainstay of advice given to
clinicians in primary care, including the RACGP.
But there is a lack of clarity around how many of
the criteria are required to consider a lesion to be
suspicious enough to excise.
If you know of colleagues who might be interested in joining
the specialty or the business, we would love to hear from you.
As recognition and thanks for taking the time to discuss
the benefits of a career with SunDoctors within your peer
networks,we are offering a $2,000 bonus if your
efforts lead to a doctor joining us,
with $5,000 if they come
on board for three days
a week or more.
A mother who regularly used sunbeds since she was a teenager and never
wore sunscreen has used social media to share graphic photos of herself
following surgery for skin cancer. The 40-year-old from the UK has been
praised for sharing her story in a bid to warn others of the dangers.

Southern Sun Pathology went live with its new information and reporting system in
March, becoming the first clinics in Australia to use the state-of- the-art technology.
The Sysmex-Delphic AP system features touch screen work stations and
automated labelling equipment and provides comprehensive laboratory workflow
management with traceability from receipt of the specimen, through processing,
administration, diagnostic reporting and report distribution.
The next step will be the implementation of enhanced, web-based report
access using Sysmex Éclair soon.
