Assignments will be challenging and experienced engineers will mentor
students in the EID Program. As an intern, you will get exposure to different
parts of the Energy Management business and will have a chance to attend
training and development sessions. Most recently, we've offered formal EID
training sessions on Six Sigma, internal IT systems, WebEx and Outlook. We
also hold executive lunch-and-learns and professional development
workshops to assist you in your career search.
We want you to learn about the whole GE culture - not just how we work,
but how we combine work and fun to create an atmosphere that promotes
camaraderie and learning. Our "EID Ambassador Program" allows interns/co-
ops to volunteer to plan social, community service, and professional
development activities for their sites. The EID Ambassador Committees is an

EMPLOYMENT DATES: May to August 2014 (a two-term offer will be provided
if required by your university.)
Position Description:
EID assignment categories in Energy Management include, but are not
limited to:
Engineering: Perform design and analysis of Energy Management technology
and product lines which may include smart metering, electric vehicle
charging stations, smartgrid, transformers, electrical substation, circuit
breakers, etc. Responsibilities include develop and implement new design
concepts and design improvements. Learn engineering standards and
construction practices. Execute engineering productivity projects on a
program team. Understand electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
Manufacturing: Learn and work on projects designed to improve our
assembly and production. Gain hands on experience in project management
and lean facilitation. You will work within a manufacturing environment to
evaluate and identify areas for improvement and implement these
improvements. Additional projects may involve working with cross-functional
teams that focus on improving the quality of production areas.
Sourcing: Achieve lowest possible cost for material, balanced against
optimum quality and schedule needs. You may solicit and evaluate proposals
employing appropriate negotiation, cost and price analysis techniques, using
available expertise from supporting organizations; Additional projects may
involve implementing purchase contracts following applicable company and
government regulations.
Software Engineering: Design, develop, integrate and test of new software.
Test, debug and fix of existing software; Collaborate with other engineers to
resolve technical issues; Create scripts for automated testing. Some
examples of potential assignments include working on Smart Grid software,
software and firmware for gas turbine control systems, software for remote
monitoring of wind turbines, applications for electric vehicle charging
stations, etc.
Other assignments in Environmental Health & Safety, project engineering,
and commercial sales may also be available.
Basic Qualifications:
