Major Accomplishments
• Career change from comms expert to sustainability
advocate as Eco Design Advisor at Auckland Council,
and now in private practice; as a member of the Eco
Design Advisor Network, has helped improve an
estimated 15,000 homes nationwide
• Developed the Rental Warrant of Fitness rating tool and
piloted the project in 125 homes nationwide;
submitted to select committee hearings, resulting in
new rental regulations July 2016; project manager
for local board funded Healthy Rentals, improved a
further 200 rental homes in Auckland
• Piloted the Retrofit Your Home programme in
Auckland, based on a concept he instituted in
Christchurch; 3000 homes a year now being
improved under the programme;
• Launched the Clean Heat Project with a hot air balloon
ride over Christchurch and managed marketing
budget of $250,000; resulted in more than 13,000
conversions of homes to insulation and clean
heating (over 8 years); big impact on Christchurch
smog levels
• Long association with the Sustainable Living
Programme, a national community education course;
setting up and currently chairing the Sustainable
Living Education Trust; navigated cuts in government
funding and rebranded as Future Living Skills, an
online resource supported by 15 councils
nationwide.
