Edmonton Police Service
May 1977 to June 2004
Edmonton, Alberta
Position - Police Officer
I have worked a variety of different assignments with the Edmonton Police Service.
Have performed numerous temporary acting Sergeant roles filling both supervisory
positions in Patrol, and administration Sgt, and temporary acting Detective roles in both
Criminal Investigations Section (divisional) and Criminal Investigations Division (Major
Crimes). I also have E.P.S. surveillance training as a result of duties performed in
Directed Activities Response Team, Auto Theft, Hot Wheels Team, and South
Edmonton Industrial.
I was tasked with the set up, operation and development of the neighbourhood foot
patrol in the Whyte Avenue District. During which time I also set up the first off site
"community office" utilizing volunteers to man it.
Set up and administered the South Edmonton Industrial program, which was a covert
surveillance unit utilized to detect and apprehend the criminal element responsible for
break-ins and thefts in the south east industrial sector of Edmonton. This project gained
national acclaim, and I was often contacted to aide in the set up of similar programs
across Canada. (St John, Halifax, Calgary to name the more prominent locations. This
also involved the set up of a volunteer patrol in the area, for which I was responsible for
the recruitment, training, and supervision of personnel to assist in the surveillance of
active criminals.
When the Edmonton Police Service moved into the forefront of developing a functional
Community Based Policing Model, I was recruited to help develop the model, and then
given an assignment within the project itself. My hard work and dedication was often the
subject of praise by my superiors. While in this capacity I set up a "community Patrol"
which is still functional today.
Was assigned to the "Communications Section" (dispatch center), as well as two
different tours at desk positions in both Divisional stations, and community Stations.
Spent 25 of 27 years in Operations, which is where the initial contact and investigations
are conducted during which I was very well respected for my investigative prowess and
tenacity. I was often tasked with the training of recruit constables. Have had numerous
assignments as Acting Sgt. and Det. roles, when ever asked.
