Account :
Can be opened by the guardian in the
name of a girl child till she attains the
age of ten years.
Maximum no.
of Accounts
Only one account per girl child for a
maximum of two children. In case of
twins or triplets, this facility will be
extended to the third child.

Criteria:

The maximum age limit of the girl child
is 10 years.

 Minimum amount of Rs 1,000 and
thereafter any amount in multiple of Rs
100 can be deposited.
 The minimum deposit for a financial
year is Rs 1,000 and maximum Rs 1.5
lakh.
 Deposits in an account to be made till
completion of fourteen years, from the
date of opening of the account
 No limit on the number of deposits
either monthly or yearly

3. Particulars Description
Interest rate :
For 2014-15, it is 9.1% calculated on yearly
basis & compounded yearly. Going forward
the government will notify the interest rate
every year.
After the girl child attains the age of 18
years, 50 % of the money can be
withdrawn for the higher studies.

Withdrawal :
After the girl child attains the age of 18
years, 50 % of the money can be
withdrawn for the higher studies.
Maturity :
 The account matures on completion of
21 years from the date of opening of
the account or the date of marriage of
the girl child, whichever is earlier
 If account is not closed after maturity
balance will continue to earn interest as
notified from time to time.

Taxation :
 Deduction under Section 80C of the
Income Tax Act is available at the time
of deposit / investment.
 No clarity on tax treatment:
a) on the interest income,
b) maturity proceeds
c) taxation in the hands of the daughter
