• Initially when Sukanya Samriddhi Rules
were declared, it was an ETE scheme,
which means interest earned was taxed.
• But in the recent budget, financed minister
has confirmed it as a complete tax free
scheme.

80C Benefits
• The depositor of the account can avail tax
benefit under Under section 80C of the
Income Tax Act,1961.
• One needs to save within the existing 80C
limit of 1,50,000/- along with other tax
benefit instruments like LIC, PPF, 5 years
tax saving FD, NSC, ELSS etc.

Income Tax Liability
• If both the parents are earning, it is
expected that both can avail tax benefits
by investing partially in single account.
• E.g. If the total amount to be deposited is
1,00,000/-, then both father & mother can
deposit & show 50,000/- each for tax
exemption.
