shocking-transformation-faces-users-hooked-
deadly-drug.html
I looked at the following websites to both learn how to apply stage
makeup and how to achieve specific looks for example, we wanted
to show how our protagonist goes from a normal healthy girl to a
heavy drug user. To be able to create this look with makeup I firstly
looked at real examples using an article through the daily mail.
Although a tabloid paper like the daily mail might not be the most
reliable source I knew they would provide shocking and extreme
examples, as this is what would interest their viewers who choose a
tabloid paper over a broadsheet.
Here the drug user looks
fairly average, she’s tied
her hair back and her face
looks clean and presentable
without any spots or
blemishes.
Something as simple as
untidy hair will be easy to
achieve and can be very
noticeable, therefore we
will try to recreate a similar
look in our own trailer to
show her gradual increase
and dependency on drugs.
Her hair looks greasy and unkempt
indicating a lack of care about
appearances. Additionally her hair die has
grown out and she has not bothered to re-die
it. This could reveal that she no longer
can afford cosmetic things like this
perhaps because she has to fund her
increasing drug addiction.
Her eye make up has increased perhaps
showing a change in personality or
attitude however it has been applied in a
very careless manner like she doesn’t have
the time or effort to spend on doing
makeup.
Her face looks more worn and tired and
there has been an increase in acne on her
face hidden by sloppily applied
foundation. These are both things I would
like to recreate on my model
Here is a very extreme
example of a drug user. Her
hair is completely
dishevelled and now she is
wearing no makeup
ultimately demonstrating
how she has no care for her
looks or appearance now
because she is to busy trying
to afford her drug addiction.
Her face looks extremely
tired and there is a loss of
structure around her eyes
and mouth . She has also lost
a considerable amount of
weight in her face
throughout the pictures and
this is a factor I am
considering trying to show in
our trailer if it can be done
via makeup.
From my research during this section I
gathered that many drug users will loose
weight from their faces especially in drugs
that suppress appetite. They often have
bags under their eyes and they generally
look older and more unattractive
depending on the time and amount they
have used the drugs.
A typical trait is unhealthy, spotty skin, which would be expected of a
teenager so this is something we would look into trying to achieve in our
own trailer, as the protagonist is a teenage drug user. More extreme
effects are loss of face shape and teeth however we would not show this
because of the limited time she will have been using the drug.

Tips/ht/Stage-Makeup-101.htm
After looking at the physical symptoms of drugs I looked at a stage
makeup website to learn how to achieve these kind of looks and
symptoms. Although the website wasn’t explicitly about a drug
using character I could still use and adapt the information they
gave me. I learnt that by emphasizing the contours of someone’s
face they will appear more gaunt or hollow looking. This would link
to the idea of a reduced appetite and weight loss that is common in
drug users therefore as our protagonist progressively becomes
involved in drugs I will add dark powder or cream to underneath the
cheeks and around the eye sockets and temples. I will also use
dark eye makeup and smudge it underneath the eye to show a worn
and tired look as the protagonist struggles to keep up a normal life.
To contrast, I will also use makeup to show a healthy looking teenage girl
at the start of the trailer using highlighter on her cheekbones, chin and
under her eye brows. The makeup will be subtler here to reflect that this
is her normal natural self before she becomes involved with drugs.

10-biggest-cases-of-revenge.htm#page=0
The dominant theme in our trailer is revenge but before we created the
specific plot and storyline I wanted to research the topic and learn about
the psychological effects of it, how it works and its limitations so I could
use these to create a realistic storyline. Firstly, I looked at lots of
different examples of revenge and learned that some are instantaneous
reactions. For example when the U.S. government saw a train full of their
citizens murdered so they then immediately killed all German soldiers
(who came to them in surrender) on the spot. However, other forms of
revenge that are not so sudden and that take time to plan are often
carried out over a long period of time this is also shown in the trailer ‘A
Law Abiding Citizen’as a man waits a year before exacting his carefully
planned revenge. This website taught me that revenge has no time limit
and therefore it doesn’t matter how long they wait before exacting the
revenge it will give them the same if not a heightened effect or release

html
Then next website helped me understand more about the revenge seeker and
the way they think. I looked at a psychoanalysis of revenge and learnt about
different theories including the ‘understanding hypothesis’ which I think will
be relevant to our piece as the theory “holds that an offender’s suffering is
not enough, on its own, to achieve truly satisfactory revenge. Instead, the
avenger must be assured that the offender has made a direct connection
between the retaliation and the initial behaviour.” Therefore, in our plot the
protagonist will subconsciously want the antagonist to know that it is her
seeking revenge and she will want to remind him of the reason why. Therefore
we might try and link the end of the trailer back to the reason she is seeking
revenge on him perhaps through a flashback.
Additionally, I also learnt that “instead of quenching hostility,
revenge can prolong the unpleasantness of the original offense”
and that instead of delivering justice, revenge often creates only a
cycle of retaliation. This means that our protagonist will not feel
any release for her revenge and will instead feel worse ultimately
resulting in a bigger drug addiction and realistically she will probably
continue to seek revenge until she is satisfied. However since I
have learnt that is not possible there will have to be a bigger more
dramatic ending or we would consider leaving the trailer on a cliff
hanger.
“Revenge is a harmful action
against a person or group in
response to a grievance, be it
real or perceived.”
Please see below for a trailer which
inspired our concept of revenge and is
also an outstanding example of how
revenge can be a successful key theme
to a thriller genre trailer.
