This document summarizes a presentation given to IPAC about green oil as clean energy for the 21st century. It discusses how Alberta can use its oil wealth to fund the transition to sustainable energy, starting with greener hydrocarbon production. It proposes growing green industries like nanotechnology, biomass, and high-speed rail. A natural resource severance tax on oil could generate billions annually to pay for a clean energy economy. Public opinion research suggests Albertans want more environmental stewardship from oil sands and do not trust politicians to responsibly manage growth.
