5. The story so far ...
St Winefride’s hospital was built in 1938 in the
art-deco style of its time. It was situated in
the grounds of a classic Victorian villa known
as The Linden’s. Until 1947 the hospital was
used for the treatment and rehabilitation of
wounded Welsh servicemen from WWII.
For the next sixty years, the hospital was
run by a charity as a nursing home for the
elderly. Famous residents included the writer
Saunders Lewis, who spent the last period of
his life there.
Loosemore started work on the St Winefride’s
masterplan in 2010 and The Apartments
represent the third phase of the development.
The fi rst phase, The Terrace, introduced
eco-luxury design in the form of imposing
four bedroom houses and phase two, The
Crescent, consisted of twelve houses built
to the same high specifi cation and set within
a gated enclave. Both phases were fi ve star
winners at the International Property Awards.
