Peer leaders are effective when they have strong interpersonal skills to interact well with others and help introverted students engage. Ground rules help establish a productive learning environment where roles are equitable and students feel responsible for the group's success. Peer leadership develops over time from self leadership to helping peers and prepares students for leadership beyond the classroom.

8. Peer leadership spans across a continuum of learning. Leadership begins with self
leadership which is an intrapersonal skill. Once personal leadership is achieved,
students then begin to branch out into peer leadership. This then enables them to
branch out even further beyond the constructs of the classroom into life skills, people
and public leadership.
