Feelings of stress and anxiety are a part of life. Some levels of stress can actually be good
for us, as the right kind of stress encourages us toward change and growth. However, when
stress and anxiety exist for an extended period of time, they can become a burden or even a
health risk
Previously found impacts:
1.Anxiety leads to poor academic performance & underachievement
2.Anxiety leads to poor engagement in class
3.Anxiety leads to drop out
4.Academic consequences lead to long term economic losses for individual and society
5.Anxious children have a narrow focus of attention biased towards possible threat
6.Worry takes up some of the capacity available for other mental tasks
7.Anxiety associated with
– Decreased short term memory capacity, – Poor recall of previously mastered materials
8.Anxiety symptoms include various physical complaints (most commonly fatigue, nausea,
Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear that can be mild or
severe. Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life – for example,
you may feel worried and anxious about sitting an exam, or having a medical test
or job interview.
Dilemma means a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made
between two or more alternatives, especially equally undesirable ones.
In this stage students suffer from anxiety and different dilemmas that sometimes
hamper their lives. Most students experience a little anxiety before a test and it is
healthy to do so. A little stress motivates people to adequately prepare for an exam.
But there are students who become mentally paralyzed by tests and who are unable
to perform at their best. Sometimes the pressure of education is too much and
students cannot deal with it and thus suffer from depression. These students suffer
from severe depression. Students can affect the ability to concentrate, and there have
been studies conducted that prove that stress/anxiety/dilemma interfere with a
student’s ability to concentrate.
Why we chose this topic?
We choose this topic to find out the impact on and current situation of the North South University
students.
– How anxious they are feeling?
– How anxiety is hampering their life, career and health?
– How can they overcome it?
– To create awareness about it among the students, teachers, and parents.
Research Methodology
Primary research:
Our primary research included collecting the data from sets of
questionnaires and interview checklist.
Secondary research:
we used internet website to find out some related information about
the topic, as well as a search engine like Google and Yahoo.
Hypothesis
we expect to find that Stress (anxiety and dilemma) has a negative impact on a
student’s life.
Research questions:
➤How anxiety and dilemmas affect students?
➤What are the causes behind this issue?
Research strategy
Mixed (quantitative and qualitative) that Included survey (with both closed and open ended
questions) and interview.
Research Method
Questionnaire (semi structured questions) for the students and an in depth interview of the
clinical psychologist and student counselor of North South University Ms. Zohora Parveen.
Sample strategy
➤Systematic random sampling.
Our sample consisted of 43 students out of the total population of NSU students. So we
went around the campus and randomly selected 6 students from each of the major
compartments (cafeteria, study hall, library, NAC, SAC, gym, gallery) to fill up the
survey Questionnaire.
➤Convenience Sampling strategy :
Our target sample was NSU student. It was convenient for us and also served our purpose
well
➽ Characteristic of the sample selected:
The sample selected were all NSU students who are exposed to education induced stress
on a daily basis and a psychologist from NSU was interviewed to give us a more detailed
explanation. It was convenient for us and also served our purpose well.
Justification for the sample selected:
As the type of our research is Exploratory Research and we wanted to find out how and why
stress can affect a student’s life, the student body of NSU was the right population to explain
the objective of our topic. Other than that, it was also a good data collection source.
Data collection techniques:
A semi structured survey questionnaire was composed and copies of it was printed and a
according to simple random sampling the data was collected and analyzed. Also an interview
was taken of a clinical psychologist and student counselor.

Summary of research Finding
From my primary and secondary research I found that some level of stress is good for us. According to psychiatrist-
If a minimum level of anxiety and dilemma doesn't come on students mind they might not be serious towards
their education which has also some negative impact on their student life and also future in career growth. But
when it cross a certain level and stay for a long period of time, it can become a burden and can impact
negatively. The main reasons behind it could be the self expectations, education system, family pressure, financial
problem, environment, inability of cope up, Eve teasing, harassment. For excess level of anxiety and dillema
student can suffer from hypertension, can feel frustrated, which may create a negative impact on education,
career as well as on their physical and mental health such as they may suffer from fear, worries, trauma, phobia
toward certain issues, heart problem, mental problem, which could be a result of dropout from study, drug abuse,
committing crime and deviance, losing own confidence , digestive disorder, sleeping disorder, fatigue so many
problems.
Discussion & Conclution
Social anxiety is an inconvenient disorder in many situations in life, but for a student it can be especially
difficult to deal with. we observe previously found impact from literature review that anxiety can leads to
poor academic performance and underachievement , poor engagement in class ,drop out . Academic
consequences lead to long term economic losses for individual and society. It also associated with poor
recall of previously mastered material.
• The main reason are NSU student are suffer from anxiety because of back to back exams we also found
40% of their anxiety was worries and 40 % of them agreed that effect their mental health so they
couldn’t concentrate and 41 % students think maintaining time gap between exams could help them .
61% students think some level of stress is good for us and 72 % think over anxiety exist for a long period
of time, it can become burden a health risk and they also felt it could causes hypertension. We also
found same thing on our review literature because some level of anxiety is good for us, as the right kind
of stress is encourages us towards change and growth.
• Our hypothesis was anxiety have negative impact on students which is partially right but we are not
complete wrong because there are lot of students think anxiety is good for us same time they also face
trouble for anxiety .
• I thought to overcome this anxiety, I have some few recommendation Iand hope this will help to make a
calmer outlook, you’ll be able to make better decisions and create a more successful outcome.
Recomendation
• To get rid of this anxiety of a student his institution plays a very important role.
• The first key to reducing test anxiety is good basic health
• Medications will help a student a lot
• He has to be given opportunities for presenting and taking decisions.
• Proper counseling service is needed.
• On the other hand thinking realistically positive thoughts and practicing your performance positively in
your mind increase the likelihood of good performance, which is very important for a student.
• Accept your anxiety
If you really want to effectively manage you anxiety the key is to accept it.
Accepting your anxiety doesn’t mean ‘resigning ourselves to a life of
anxious misery. It simply means that we are better off
recognizing and fully accepting the existence of anxiety and
other uncomfortable emotional states that are inevitable, but
Transitory’.
Anxiety can feel overwhelming. It can feel like chains around your feet,
weighing you down. But by taking small steps – like the ones above –
you can minimize your anxiety and cope effectively.
• So if you experience anxiety today, simply observe it
• As Deiblar said ,
Thank You !!
