The student found participating in student council in 7th grade to be a positive experience, despite previous losses in 5th and 6th grade. They campaigned hard for a position as Team Cougar Representative, facing a stressful two weeks campaigning against friends but not letting fears of losing stop them. On April 26th, 2017 the student was elected 8th grade secretary. Having student council as a class provides more time for planning events compared to only meeting for 30 minutes per week as an advisory the previous year. Student council positions can offer opportunities for scholarships and job preparation down the line.
