1. Story Outline for ‘Jennifer’
Characters: College students. Jennifer and Sam are the central characters, two
people at completely different ends of the spectrum. Other characters are Jennifer
and Sam’s friends, and boy who is needed for ending two, whom Jennifer
eventually gets with, and a Jennifer lookalike.
Locations: Takes place in the King’s Lynn area:- Town, Springwood High School
and on location at a party.
Situation: After a party, Sam tries countless times to meet up and gain contact
with Jennifer, who flirted with him at the party.
The story begins at a party. There is a large group of teenagers dancing and
messing around. A pretty, popular girl called Jennifer is hanging around with her
friends, giggling, singing and gossiping about other party-goers. Sam, a boy with
not much going for him is standing with his friends- they all seem slightly
awkward; they aren’t dancing or chatting, just standing there… trying to act as if
they are having a good time. One of Jennifer’s friends spots the group of boys and
begins chatting about them with Jennifer and the other girls.
The girl dares Jennifer to get with Sam for a laugh, all in the spirit of the moment.
Jennifer grabs a drink and gulps it down, wipes her mouth and struts over to the
group of boys. She’s extremely direct with him, having complete control over the
situation as she begins to flirt and lead him on, making him feel as if she is actually
interested. Sam seems surprised at first, almost taken a back. Yet, as Jennifer
continues to flirt and charm her way around him, Sam loosens up and begins to
enjoy all of the attention. As the party continues to rage on, Jennifer leads Sam
away, with Sam happily obliging.
After the party, we see snippets into the life of Sam and Jennifer. Sam is almost
desperately trying to reach Jennifer, looking for her- trying to call her, yet Jennifer
either is nowhere to be found (or so it seems), or doesn’t answer her phone because
she is either busy or can’t be bothered. The conflict in the story has to be the two
central characters themselves, as well as the phone. This is because there are plenty
of opportunities when they could have bumped into each other. However, Sam is
either too slow or does something stupid that stops him from even realising she is
there (I.e. the fact when he drops a large pile of books he is carrying, she struts right
past and he doesn’t even notice, and she definitely doesn’t notice from the fact that
she doesn’t really care for others- she probably just sees him as some nerd who has
dropped his books). Also, as mentioned before, the phone is definitely is a conflict as
it’s the main key to their contact and a means of building up their relationship, yet
Jennifer never checks her phone, or bothers to answer.
The resolution to the story can go one of two ways. The story can be resolved with
the fact that Jennifer finally calls Sam, while he sits disheartened and lonely.
Jennifer is behind him the whole time, and pulls him up, much to his surprise. The
phone (the central piece of the whole video) comes into play here as they both hold
hands, with a phone clutched in between.
The other ending is a resolution in the sense that Sam realised he’s better off alone,
can do much better and was in essence, wasting his time. This is realised when he
sees Jennifer with another boy at a party similar to the other.
