Storms on Jupiter and Saturn break up methane molecules in their atmospheres, fracturing them into smaller pieces. These fractured methane molecules then fall as rain-like precipitation onto the planets' surfaces. The extreme temperature and pressure conditions on the surfaces of Jupiter and Saturn transform the fallen methane molecules into diamonds.
