The OECD PRTR Task Force is developing recommendations to make pollution release and transfer register (PRTR) data more comparable globally. They are using five existing PRTR systems and the Kiev Protocol as a starting point. Their approach involves developing standardized lists of chemicals and sectors to report on, as well as common reporting elements like thresholds and quantities. They have made progress by developing long and short chemical lists and are working on long and short sector lists. Their next steps are to complete the sector lists, integrate the chemical and sector work, and begin guidance on global PRTR comparability.
