1STEER YOUR CAREER: A Career Exploration Guide for Twin Cities Youth I
I STEER YOUR CAREER: A Career Exploration Guide for Twin Cities Youth2
Do you want to learn about a future career, gain experience and skills, and have fun
while you’re at it?
You’ve come to the right place.
Welcome to “Steer Your Career” - the Twin Cities Career Readiness Collaborative’s
opportunity guide. Here you’ll find dozens of internships, camps, courses and job
opportunities in a variety of career fields – just waiting for you to try them out.
Here are a few tips on getting the most out of this guide:
Ø	Use the Table of Contents to see what’s here
Ø	Use the Programs At A Glance to get quick, basic info on each program quickly
Ø	If you are just browsing, check out the top half of each page. The background
colors give you an idea of whether a program is a ‘beginner’ program (blue),
‘advanced’ program (red), or a program for people with various levels of
expertise (orange).
Ø	Also in the top half, you’ll see the name of the organization, ages/grades eligible
to participate, and ‘career clusters’ the program falls under.
Ø	Other information, like the organization’s mission, program details, and contact
information, can be found on the bottom half of each page.
A great way to start using this guide is to take the MNCareers Interest Assessment
(http://www.ohe.state.mn.us/sPages/interestAssessment.cfm). It will give you
feedback about which career clusters might interest you, which you can use to sort
through the programs in this guide and find the one that’s right for you.
We hope you find this resource useful and easy to use. It’s never too early (or too
late!) to start steering your career. Enjoy the ride!
—The Twin Cities Career Readiness Collaborative
Welcome!

Asian Media Access Ages 13 – 21
Arts, Audio/Video Technology & Communication
“To connect the disconnected.” We use multimedia and performing arts
as a tool to reach out to under-represented communities, and to provide
youth led community-building activities.
Youth Media Force is a youth-led group of teen leaders who are changing the world
through multimedia arts. Youth Media Force meets weekly during the school year, and
collectively produces videos, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), youth talk shows,
etc. Many of the topics are related to teens and their peers, such as Teen Pregnancy
Prevention and ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) Prevention. The media
products will help educate and engage, and hopefully help community members of all
ages.

Boys & Girls Club of the Twin Cities Ages 13 – 18
General Readiness Training
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities enable all young people,
especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as
productive, caring, responsible citizens.
Career Launch - Members set long-term career goals and learn about different careers
options. They work individually or in groups to build job-search skills and job readiness.
College is demystified as youth learn how to choose a college, apply, get accepted and
enroll.
Job Ready - Teens get coaching on how to find and maintain employment. They
learn how to write resumes and fill out job applications, and they take part in mock
interviews with professionals.

  • 2. I STEER YOUR CAREER: A Career Exploration Guide for Twin Cities Youth2 Do you want to learn about a future career, gain experience and skills, and have fun while you’re at it? You’ve come to the right place. Welcome to “Steer Your Career” - the Twin Cities Career Readiness Collaborative’s opportunity guide. Here you’ll find dozens of internships, camps, courses and job opportunities in a variety of career fields – just waiting for you to try them out. Here are a few tips on getting the most out of this guide: Ø Use the Table of Contents to see what’s here Ø Use the Programs At A Glance to get quick, basic info on each program quickly Ø If you are just browsing, check out the top half of each page. The background colors give you an idea of whether a program is a ‘beginner’ program (blue), ‘advanced’ program (red), or a program for people with various levels of expertise (orange). Ø Also in the top half, you’ll see the name of the organization, ages/grades eligible to participate, and ‘career clusters’ the program falls under. Ø Other information, like the organization’s mission, program details, and contact information, can be found on the bottom half of each page. A great way to start using this guide is to take the MNCareers Interest Assessment (http://www.ohe.state.mn.us/sPages/interestAssessment.cfm). It will give you feedback about which career clusters might interest you, which you can use to sort through the programs in this guide and find the one that’s right for you. We hope you find this resource useful and easy to use. It’s never too early (or too late!) to start steering your career. Enjoy the ride! —The Twin Cities Career Readiness Collaborative Welcome!
