STATE THEATRE NEW JERSEY
ANNNOUNCES 2017-2018 SEASON
THE POWER OF LIVE PERFORMANCE
New Brunswick, NJ (May 4, 2017)—State Theatre New Jersey unveiled its 2017-2018 Season,
a diverse line-up of events which builds upon the theater’s mission to enrich the lives of people
of all ages and backgrounds through the power of live performance. The 2017-2018 Season
includes seven Broadway national tours, three internationally acclaimed orchestras, top-notch
comedy, world-class dance, amazing concerts, engaging family programs, and much more.
“We are very excited about our 2017-18 Season,” said Tom Carto, State Theatre New Jersey
President & CEO. “We have so many great international acts, from Festival of South African
Dance; to the Japanese drum group, TAO; to Tango Buenos Aires and Sweden's Helsingborg
Symphony Orchestra. It is our goal to encourage members of our community to have a life-long
association with the performing arts and so we work on diverse programs and events that foster
that relationship. Whether we are creating new programs like our Pride Nights at The State,
hosting annual events like Family Day on President's Day, or our Veterans ticket program, we
have something for everyone.”
A major part of the State Theatre’s 2017-18 Season is the Broadway Series. On October 13,
State Theatre kicks off the series with the New Jersey premiere of the Tony®, Grammy®,
and Olivier Award®-winning musical Jersey Boys. The other shows in the Broadway Series
include Motown the Musical on March 23-25; Cinderella featuring the music of Rogers and
Hammerstein on February 9-10; the musical comedy, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and
Murder on April 6-7; and Cabaret on May 18-19, based on Roundabout Theatre Company’s
Tony Award®-winning production. Additional Broadway shows include the family musicals,
The Sound of Music and on December 22-24 and The Wizard of Oz on May 4-5.
“We are proud to present the New Jersey premiere of the Tony® Award-winning musical Jersey
Boys,” said Brian O’Boyle, State Theatre New Jersey Vice President of Programming &
Executive Producer. “When we saw that Jersey Boys was touring next year we approached the
producers about a New Jersey premiere at State Theatre and now it is the opening show for our
big 2017-18 Broadway Season, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”

This year’s orchestra series features three stellar groups. On November 12, Conductor Pavel
Kogan and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra perform a program Rachmaninov,
Tchaikovsky, and Scryabin. Following Moscow on February 11 is one of Sweden’s oldest
orchestras, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra featuring piano soloist, Gunilla Süssmann.
Rounding out the series is the Staastkapelle Weimar in their first North American tour on
March 4.
This season’s world-class dance line-up features two evenings of Latin dance with Tango
Buenos Aires on October 20-21; the Festival of South African Dance on October 7; and a
troupe of world champion Irish step dancers, former members of Riverdance and Michael
Flatley's Lord of the Dance in Dublin Irish Dance on March 17. Other dance performances
include an American Repertory Ballet triple-bill of Carmen, the ARB premiere of Spring
Waters, and Kirk Peterson's The Eyes that Gently Touch on October 12; and the Moscow
Festival Ballet on April 14 in Giselle.
On Presidents Day on February 19, State Theatre brings back its annual Family Day event
featuring free performances, workshops, arts and crafts, and more. Family programs in the new
season also include Guess How Much I Love You and I Love My Little Storybook, a charming
puppetry performance by the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia on October 22; internationally-
renowned troupe, Martial Artists and Acrobats of Tianjin on November 17-18; and a heart-
pounding spectacle of sound and movement showcasing the ancient art of Japanese taiko
drumming on February 15-16 with TAO: Drum Heart.
State Theatre continues its tradition of as one of the best venues for live music in New Jersey
this season, bringing back the Sixties Spectacular on October 28 featuring Jay and The
Americans, Paul Revere's Raiders, Lou Christie, The Vogues, and Manhattan Skyline. A week
later, State Theatre presents a free public concert by the United States Air Force Heritage of
America Concert Band on November 9. The concert series also includes the return of BRIT
FLOYD - The World's Greatest Pink Floyd Show in their Immersion World Tour on
November 10; The Fab Faux on November 11, performing The Beatles catalog of songs from
1968-1970; and the Led Zeppelin tribute, Get The Led Out - The American Led Zeppelin on
November 22. Additional performances include the musical septet from Vienna, Mnozil Brass
on February 22 and classically-trained virtuoso violinist/violists Kev Marcus and Wil B, better
known as Black Violin on April 12.
Three of comedy’s best have been added for the 2017-18 Season and they are SNL and 30 Rock
alum, Tracy Morgan on September 30 and a fantastic double bill of Brad Garrett and Rita
Rudner on October 29.
New variety programs that make their State Theatre debut this season include Brain Candy
Live! Starring Adam Savage and Michael Stevens on November 15. Savage, former co-host
of MythBusters and one of television's most loved personalities, and Michael Stevens, one of
YouTube's biggest stars; bring along more than three tons of their crazy toys, incredible tools,
and mind-blowing demonstrations for a celebration of curiosity that’s an interactive, hands-on,
minds-on theatrical experience like no other. On January 24-25, State Theatre presents the
hilarious magic tricks, death-defying stunts, and acts of breathtaking wonder of The
Illusionists. And on February 2-3, from the producers of The Illusionists, and the award-
winning puppeteers from War Horse, comes Circus 1903. From strong men to contortionists,
acrobats to musicians, knife throwers to high wire performers, this performance will take
audiences back to the golden age of circus.
Finally, no season would be complete without a line-up of holiday favorites. This season
includes the live stage shows of A Charlie Brown Christmas on November 28 and Rudolph the
Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical on December 18. Other holiday favorites back for the 2017-
18 Season include The Irish Tenors with Ronan Tynan, Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns on
December 1; Vienna Boys Choir on December 10; Nutcracker featuring American
Repertory Ballet on December 15-17; and the New Year’s Eve Concert, Salute to Vienna on
December 31.
Also, for the first time, State Theatre New Jersey is offering season tickets to its
Broadway Series. Season ticket holders are able to order their series tickets months before
single tickets go on sale to the general public. They are also able to secure some of the best
seats in the historic theater and those seats will remain theirs, year after year for as long as
they remain season tickets holders. Season tickets also come with many added benefits such as
20% savings off single ticket prices—like getting one Broadway show free—ticket exchanges
within the series, and bring your friends with 15% discount that allow single tickets (once on
sale) to be added on to a season ticket at a 15% savings off single ticket prices.
Broadway show tickets are currently only available through our season ticket program. Single
tickets to the Broadway shows will go on sale on July 13. Tickets for all other performances in
State Theatre New Jersey’s 2017-2018 Season go on sale to the public on Friday, May 5 at 10am.

STATE THEATRE NEW JERSEY ANNNOUNCES 2017-2018 SEASON

  • 1. 15 Livingston Ave | New Brunswick, NJ 08901 732-246-SHOW (7469) | StateTheatreNJ.org STATE THEATRE NEW JERSEY ANNNOUNCES 2017-2018 SEASON THE POWER OF LIVE PERFORMANCE New Brunswick, NJ (May 4, 2017)—State Theatre New Jersey unveiled its 2017-2018 Season, a diverse line-up of events which builds upon the theater’s mission to enrich the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds through the power of live performance. The 2017-2018 Season includes seven Broadway national tours, three internationally acclaimed orchestras, top-notch comedy, world-class dance, amazing concerts, engaging family programs, and much more. “We are very excited about our 2017-18 Season,” said Tom Carto, State Theatre New Jersey President & CEO. “We have so many great international acts, from Festival of South African Dance; to the Japanese drum group, TAO; to Tango Buenos Aires and Sweden's Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. It is our goal to encourage members of our community to have a life-long association with the performing arts and so we work on diverse programs and events that foster that relationship. Whether we are creating new programs like our Pride Nights at The State, hosting annual events like Family Day on President's Day, or our Veterans ticket program, we have something for everyone.” A major part of the State Theatre’s 2017-18 Season is the Broadway Series. On October 13, State Theatre kicks off the series with the New Jersey premiere of the Tony®, Grammy®, and Olivier Award®-winning musical Jersey Boys. The other shows in the Broadway Series include Motown the Musical on March 23-25; Cinderella featuring the music of Rogers and Hammerstein on February 9-10; the musical comedy, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder on April 6-7; and Cabaret on May 18-19, based on Roundabout Theatre Company’s Tony Award®-winning production. Additional Broadway shows include the family musicals, The Sound of Music and on December 22-24 and The Wizard of Oz on May 4-5. “We are proud to present the New Jersey premiere of the Tony® Award-winning musical Jersey Boys,” said Brian O’Boyle, State Theatre New Jersey Vice President of Programming & Executive Producer. “When we saw that Jersey Boys was touring next year we approached the producers about a New Jersey premiere at State Theatre and now it is the opening show for our big 2017-18 Broadway Season, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.” Contact: Kelly Blithe Director of Communications 732-247-7200, ext. 542 kblithe@StateTheatreNJ.org
