St. Lucy St. Lucy was born in Sicily and died during the persecution of Diocletian. Her name means “light.”  St. Lucy’s feast day is December 13.  Her feast day comes during Advent when we wait for the coming of Christ - the Light of the World.
St. Lucy She is the patron saint of those with eye troubles, of writers, and of Sicily, Italy. She made a vow not to get married.  There was a rich, young boy who wanted to marry her. He accused her of being a Christian.  She was tortured, but remained faithful to Jesus.
St. Lucy A Hungarian custom is to plant wheat in a small pot on Lucy’s Feast Day. The wheat is then carried to the manger scene as a symbol of Christ.
