St. Lucy was a Christian martyr from Sicily who died during the persecution of Diocletian. She made a vow of virginity and was tortured for her faith after being accused of being a Christian by a man who wanted to marry her. She remained faithful to Jesus even through torture. Her feast day on December 13 comes during Advent when Christians await the birth of Christ, the light of the world. She is the patron saint of those with eye troubles and of Sicily.
