John Walker has extensive experience as a pipe fitter since 1984, including 12 years of hands-on experience fitting pipes from 1/2 inch to 48 inch diameters made from various materials. He has worked on numerous large sites with over 1,000 personnel as well as smaller sites and workshops. Notable roles include serving as a team leader and supervisor responsible for pre-commissioning duties. References from past supervisors and engineers praise the quality of his work and describe him as the best pipe fitter. He is willing to take on difficult jobs and roles including production fitting, specialist work, supervision, and troubleshooting.

Rhys Evans kept a journal documenting his family's experiences during the Industrial Revolution in Wales. The journal entries describe:
1) How Rhys's grandfather talked about life before the steam engine was invented in 1781, and how it changed work and livelihoods by allowing coal mining even during rain.
2) How Rhys visited his friend Benson who worked at the Blaenavon Ironworks, one of the largest iron producers during this period, employing difficult and dangerous work.
3) How Rhys's sister used to work in the mines until the 1842 Mines Act prohibited women and children under 10 from working underground, sparked by the Huskar Pit disaster that killed 26 children.

It has been a busy few weeks, here are a selection of the community events I have been attending and the issues that have been raised and which I am currently working on:
Feb 17th - Mar 1st
The summary provides an overview of the Railway Markets Newsletter:
1) A bus trip organized by Jan & Wide Bay Transport visited the Railway Markets for morning tea. Volunteers prepared a beautiful spread of food which received positive feedback.
2) The President Dulcie was unable to attend due to injury, so the Secretary Dallas filled in. An urn developed a leak during the event but attendees remained patient.
3) Jan & Wide Bay Transport later donated a new urn to the Railway Markets in appreciation for the visit. Updates are provided on upcoming events and the market garden.
Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.
UN WOD 2024 will take us on a journey of discovery through the ocean's vastness, tapping into the wisdom and expertise of global policy-makers, scientists, managers, thought leaders, and artists to awaken new depths of understanding, compassion, collaboration and commitment for the ocean and all it sustains. The program will expand our perspectives and appreciation for our blue planet, build new foundations for our relationship to the ocean, and ignite a wave of action toward necessary change.
Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

“There are people in this country who work hard every day
Not for fame or fortune do they strive

2. Please accept my sincere congratulations on having hired and trained
such a stellar employee as Mitchell Metcalf. He is truly an exceptional
human being and an over-the-top asset to your organization.
My husband and I have just purchased my childhood home at 238 Texas Spur
Road. The first thing to go was the sewer system, which we fixed two weeks ago for
about $2000. This morning, Mitchell was driving by our new clean out on his way to
another job when he noticed we had a problem. Instead of simply calling the town of
Montreat and reporting a sewage leak, he stopped and investigated. Not only that,
but he called his supervisor to ask permission to get your heavy equipment out here
to find the source of the problem. Once his team discovered an incorrect plumbing
solution (from two weeks ago), Mitchell again called in and received permission to
replace the clean out with the proper one for the circumstances.
I may be saying all the wrong things technically, but from a human standpoint, I just
have to say that if it weren't for the fine character of Mitchell Metcalf, I would have
had a flooded house (again) (fourth time in as many weeks), and my life would have
been absolutely miserable.
Thank you for hiring such a fine person, thank you for giving him permission to go
above and beyond what was required of him. Please put this letter in his personnel
file and give him a promotion as soon as you can!
God bless you and thank you. Sincerely,
Patricia Tubbs Burdett
(Mrs. N. Bruce)

19. Good afternoon
I wanted to write a short note
regarding Randy’s job we visited near
Johnson School Rd. The excavation
was 17 feet deep and the shield boxes
used were stacked 8 foot steel
boxes. The shields were placed well
and the ends were dug back making a
safe trench to enter. There were two
aluminum boxes there for a manhole
installation and Randy had already
brought the end panels to use. This
job was well planned, orderly, and
very safe. I would add this was not an
easy place to be in terms of depth and
the rock which was
encountered. Randy and his crew are
to be commended.
A job well done!
