  2. 2. The First Settlers: The Pilgrims <ul><li>Pilgrims left England in search of religious freedom </li></ul><ul><li>They went to Holland but didn´t like it and left for the New World (America)‏ </li></ul>
  3. 3. The New World <ul><li>On September 6th, 1620 the Pilgrims left Europe to go to America on a boat called the Mayflower </li></ul>
  4. 4. Plymouth, Massachusetts <ul><li>They first arrived to Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621 </li></ul><ul><li>This is the year of the first Thanksgiving </li></ul><ul><li>Monument </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Plymouth Rock </li></ul></ul>

  6. 6. History <ul><li>1924- First Macy´s parade </li></ul><ul><li>Macy´s employees marched down 34´th Street in Manhattan, NY </li></ul><ul><li>The parade had floats and music </li></ul>
  7. 7. History 2 <ul><li>1927- The parade added live animals and balloons </li></ul><ul><li>Santa Claus comes at the end of the parade and simbolizes the finale </li></ul>
  8. 8. Macy´s parade continued <ul><li>1947- 1´st national telecast </li></ul><ul><li>1947- Miracle on 34´th Street movie made with real footage of parade </li></ul><ul><li>1955- Parade first shown on TV on NBC </li></ul>
  9. 9. The parade today <ul><li>Helium balloons with characters such as: Mickey Mouse, Kermit the Frog, Bugs Bunny, Snoopy, Felix the Cat (1´st balloon ever used)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>Floats </li></ul><ul><li>Broadway acts, Marching Bands, Radio City Rockettes, Celebrities </li></ul>

  11. 12. Thanksgiving Meal <ul><li>Here are some of the typical Thanksgiving foods </li></ul><ul><li>Typical to New England region </li></ul><ul><li>Same foods as eaten at 1´st Thanksgiving </li></ul>
  12. 13. Giving Thanks <ul><li>Before the meal we give thanks for the good things we have in our lives </li></ul><ul><li>ie: health, family, friends, food, homes, jobs,etc… </li></ul><ul><li>Mention loved ones who have passed away </li></ul><ul><li>Dig in! </li></ul>
