Heat or hot water can reduce pain from jellyfish stings according to a review. The review found that applying heat or hot water (40-45°C) for 20-30 minutes to jellyfish sting sites reduced pain more than other treatments like vinegar or cold packs. Applying heat or hot water inactivates heat-labile nematocysts on the jellyfish tentacles that cause pain.
