The document discusses facts about Africa and how the internet is changing the continent. It mentions African entrepreneurs and innovation. It then instructs the reader to split into groups based on African regions and research start-ups, entrepreneurs, incubators, media figures, data, events, politics, and social businesses in two countries per region to present to potential investors.
This document discusses how gender stereotypes are formed from a very young age through things like fairy tales, toys, clothes and messages about what behaviors and roles are expected of girls and boys. It notes that these early lessons negatively impact women's self-esteem and tendency to underestimate their abilities while also limiting their opportunities by discouraging risk-taking. The document argues that these socialized gender roles and stereotypes hold women back from achieving success.
Women in politics. Let's make HERstory!Shiftbalance
For the past 100 years, women's political participation has been growing.
Yet the stats are still very limited.
What are the barriers to women's political engagement?
How can we better balance the voice of power?
Which initiatives exist around the world?
TV, cinema and media in general are incredibly homogeneous.
You can't be what you can't see...
And we know that diverse teams are more performant and more creative.
So which initiatives exist to portray the world as it really is?
The document discusses Jungian archetypes and goddess archetypes that represent different aspects of femininity. It describes the Virgin goddesses (Artemis, Athena, Hestia) who represent independence, the Vulnerable goddesses (Hera, Demeter, Persephone) who embody relationship roles, and the Alchemical goddess Aphrodite who values emotional experience. It suggests that recognizing these archetypes can help women become protagonists in their own lives by shaping choices and facing challenges as heroic journeys of self-realization and wholeness.
This document outlines the journey of an entrepreneur who became passionate about promoting gender equality and challenging stereotypes. It details how they started a platform called Shiftbalance to share knowledge on gender stereotypes and solutions. Shiftbalance produces infographics and identifies campaigns, initiatives, videos, and products that empower women and promote a more balanced world. It encourages people to get engaged and pick their own battles to address issues of gender inequality.
The document discusses the historical and ongoing gender gap in public speaking. It provides evidence that women have faced social pressures to remain silent, from laws thousands of years ago to modern interruptions and lack of opportunity. While women now make up over half of social media and conference attendees, men still dominate speaking roles and receive more attention and retweets. The gap persists due to socialization of women to be less assertive and talkative, as well as face backlash if they do speak up. Efforts are underway to increase gender balance in public forums and reduce unconscious biases among conference organizers.
Shiftbalance is a non-profit organization based in Barcelona that aims to promote gender balance and challenge stereotypes. Some of its activities have included organizing the successful TEDxBarcelonaWomen conference in 2015 which attracted over 1,000 attendees, providing diversity and storytelling training workshops, and producing communication materials like blogs and infographics. The document outlines these activities and events in more detail and evaluates them as helping to renew conversations around gender issues.
