Java SE is ideal for building lightweight microservices and those services are increasingly being deployed to the cloud. Cloud platforms are attractive deployment targets due to their high availability, affordability, ease of management, and access to services like object storage, messaging, and databases. And when well architected, Cloud Java apps exhibit a number of qualities like portability, updatability, configurability, composability, and scalability.
Implementing a highly scalable stock prediction system with R, Geode, SpringX...William Markito Oliveira
Finance market prediction has always been one of the hottest topics in Data Science and Machine Learning. However, the prediction algorithm is just a small piece of the puzzle. Building a data stream pipeline that is constantly combining the latest price info with high volume historical data is extremely challenging using traditional platforms, requiring a lot of code and thinking about how to scale or move into the cloud. This session is going to walk-through the architecture and implementation details of an application built on top of open-source tools that demonstrate how to easily build a stock prediction solution with no source code - except a few lines of R and the web interface that will consume data through a RESTful endpoint, real-time. The solution leverages in-memory data grid technology for high-speed ingestion, combining streaming of real-time data and distributed processing for stock indicator algorithms.
GGX 2014 Lari Hotari Modular Monoliths with Spring Boot and Grails 3Lari Hotari
Modular monoliths are composed of loosely coupled modules of single responsibility. Ideally these modules can be separated into true microservices when needed - instead of introducing accidental complexity and tradeoffs of distributed systems to projects in the beginning. In this presentation we will look in to the practicality of this approach with Grails 3 and Spring Boot.

Just a few years back, lack of a standard way to document, govern or describe a contract for the APIs acted as a deterrent to API adoption within the enterprise. WSDL 2.0 and WADL provided early support, but they couldn’t truly capture the essence of RESTful APIs. Recently we have seen the emergence of several description languages. New ways to describe and document APIs have emerged such as Swagger, RAML, API Blueprint and others, each taking a slightly different approach.

Oracle WebLogic Server 12.2.1 Do More with LessEd Burns
Oracle WebLogic Server 12.2.1 (WLS) is the most significant release of WLS since Oracle added WLS to its product portfolio with the acquisition of BEA in 2008. This session by WebLogic developer and JCP Specification Lead Ed Burns goes behind the buzzwords and explains the enterprise value-add brought by WLS 12.2.1 in plain English. Ed infuses his decades long experience in web technologies throughout the presentation, addressing such topics as why app servers are still useful, what role standards play in transitioning to the cloud, and what is the difference between "full stack" and "monolith".
See an interview about this topic at <https: />.
Ed introduces the new version of WLS by taking a tour of two big ticket new features: multitenancy and Java EE 7. Other features such as continuous availability, REST management, and Docker/devops features will also be included.
The multitenancy features in WebLogic Server offer extreme efficiency, full isolation, application portability, and full automation, all in an easy to adopt format.
Java EE 7 is the latest version of the Java standard full stack of loosely coupled, highly cohesive technologies for building enterprise software. EE 7 features new versions of popular standards such as JAX-RS (REST), CDI, Servlet, JSF, JSON, WebSocket, JMS, and more.
WLS 12.2.1 delivers these and other new features, while continuing the promise of stability and scale developers expect.
