The Latino Professional Alliance (LPA) is a group of University employees who volunteer their time to plan events that celebrate Latino culture, such as volunteering at a family day event and marching in a Puerto Rican parade. In 2012, LPA hosted its first annual Latino Cultural Symposium featuring research on topics related to the Latino community. LPA is committed to building a positive work environment that supports the growth of Latinos at the University. Membership is open to all University employees.

1. The Latino Professional Alliance (LPA) is made up of employees from all
around the University. Our members volunteer their time to plan, orga-
nize, and participate in events throughout the year, including volunteer-
ing at Latino/Hispanic Heritage Family Day at the Memorial Art Gallery;
marching at the Rochester Puerto Rican Parade; holding networking
events; and celebrating cultural events on campus.
In November 2012, LPA hosted its first annual Latino Cultural Symposium
featuring research and information about education, health, language,
and civic engagement concerning the Latino community both locally
and globally. The symposium included presenters and research from the
Department of Linguistics; Warner School of Education; the Center for
Community Health; Project Hope & El Camino; Faculty Development and
Diversity; Facing Race, Embracing Equity; and the Spanish and Latino
Students’Association.
The LPA, a 2010 winner of the Presidential Diversity Award, is commit-
ted to building and a positive work environment and to supporting the
growth and development of Latinos at the University. Each individual
employed at the University of Rochester is considered a professional,
and, therefore, LPA aims to build an alliance among all employees in our
workplace who support LPA’s mission.
In 2013, LPA will host its annual Three Kings Day event in January and a
general meeting is planned for June. Membership is open to all University
