• Readiness for Artificial
Intelligence
Objectives
• Enable Exponential
Growth
• Scale for the Episodic
Nature of the DoD Mission

Evolution
q DoD currently has multiple means of acquiring cloud
computing capabilities
• In-house contracting activities; GovCloud; GSA schedules
• Resulting in more than 500 individual cloud efforts
q Defense Information Systems Agency recently began
offering milCloud 2.0 as an on-premises cloud solution
• Reduces hosting costs
• Migrates multiple platforms down to one
• Completed approx. 50% of the mandatory migration of non-
military defense agencies to milCloud 2.0
• Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution that leverages a
combination of COTS and government developed technology
Current Framework for Cloud Procurements
q Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI)
• Value: ~$10B over 10 years
• Award date: July 2019 (at the earliest)
• IaaS and PaaS
q Defense Enterprise Office Solution (DEOS)
• Value: ~$8B
• Uses General Services Administration IT Schedule 70 contract
• GSA has not released final RFP
• Software-as-a-service (SaaS) cloud solution that will unify and
modernize enterprise email, portal services, and enterprise
collaboration tools
Upcoming Enterprise Cloud Initiatives
q DoD’s in-house milCloud 2.0 data centers are
covered under the Department’s sustainability and
sustainable procurement policies
q DoD is leveraging commercial industry technology,
capability, and innovation, including cloud providers
reducing costs through energy efficiency
q DoD is creating a culture that is better suited for
adaptability and modem technology, including
innovation around effective resolution of e-waste
