The SPARE project aims to improve strategic river management approaches across different governance levels in the European Alpine region. It seeks to capitalize on existing river management challenges and solutions, increase awareness of river ecosystems, and develop tools to facilitate knowledge transfer and multi-level participation between actors. The project will produce a collection of best practices, a toolkit to support governance and participation processes, guidance on innovative river protection strategies, and an online platform for knowledge exchange. It involves 9 partners and 30 observers across several Alpine countries and will pilot case studies on 6 river basins to test participatory water governance methods.
