The Dominican Republic is located on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea, south of Florida. It occupies about two-thirds of the island and has a very mountainous terrain with diverse landscapes including tropical rainforests. The country has a representative democracy with an executive president and a two-chamber legislative congress. Agriculture is an important part of the economy, with sugarcane being a primary export. Tourism is also significant, with popular destinations including Punta Cana and Bahia de La Jina. The culture places emphasis on family and Catholicism, and foods prominently feature rice, beans, and fried dishes.
