Oleg Atkov was born in Khvorostyanka, Samara region on May 9, 1949. He became a famous Russian cosmonaut, flying on the Soyuz T-10 mission from February 8 to October 2, 1984, spending a record 236 days and 22 hours in space. During the mission, the crew conducted five spacewalks and hosted two visiting crews. Atkov returned to his hometown of Khvorostyanka in 1987 after completing his record-setting spaceflight.
