- 2. MAIN CHARACTER Bethany Hamilton - She is a girl that loves to surf, and is very passionate. Bethany lost her arm in a surfing accident to a shark, and is still determined and persistent to compete in surfing!
- 3. THE EYE-OPENING EVENT Bethany was out surfing with her closest friend and her friend’s dad at one of the best places to surf on the island. But suddenly she was attacked by a shark and lost her arm. She was losing blood quickly as they rushed her to the hospital, where her dad was at having surgery at the time and had no idea about Bethany. Bethany almost lost her life but was able to recover with no arm.
- 4. MOST UNBELIEVABLE EVENT After Bethany’s surfing incident, losing her arm to a shark attack. She still kept competing in surfing event without an arm which took a lot of dedication and hard work. Her first event after the incident didn’t go so well and she quit surfing for awhile, but she was still surfing in her head. Her dad made a special board for her and when she started again she was surprised with it and it worked perfect and she start competing again. She worked hard to get where she did with the help of her dad.
- 5. FAVORITE QUOTES “I don’t need easy. I just need possible.” (When she started surfing again after the shark attack and losing her arm) “It’s hard to look at things that are too close.” ( That’s what Bethany’s friend Sara told her at the church thing they do)
- 6. WHAT I’VE LEARNED The book, Soul Surfer, has inspired me. After reading the book, it makes me feel like anything is possible. It may not be easy, but it is possible. This book has inspired me to work harder at everything I do and to try my best.
- 7. WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK??? Definitely, this is one of the best books that I have read. Also one of the first book I got into and felt like I could put myself in their shoes during the story. I would recommend reading this book to anyone and everyone. This book is inspiring and will make you think. So long story short, READ IT!
