Spatial diagnostic model by introducing sattelite imageryAntonis Antoniou
The document describes NetWet3, a spatial diagnostic model that uses satellite imagery to analyze landscape components over time. It examines cultural, ecological, institutional, and socio-economic factors. Landscape configurations from 1977-2000 are analyzed using Landsat images to identify areas of high pressure and unique landscape elements. NDVI is used to examine vegetation changes. The model aims to evaluate territorial policies and identify polycentric connections between settlements for integrated landscape planning.
This document appears to be a map showing estimated soil erosion rates across regions in the Peloponnese region of Greece. The map legend indicates erosion rates ranging from less than 1 ton per hectare per year to over 40 tons per hectare per year. Text on the map refers to climate zones in the Peloponnese including the zones of Ziria, Mainalo, Cyparissia, western zone, and Taygetus and Parnon.
SMS - web based application SMS (Soil Monitoring Software).Antonis Antoniou
SMS is a web based application SMS (Soil Monitoring Software) and was developed
by EKPA in collaboration with CRA ABP. The application supports all critical functions
required for soil monitoring and management, based on the soil monitoring
methodology developed by CRA ABP. The use of Information Technology and the web
environment renders the aforementioned methodology fully operational at the level
of Local and Regional Authorities (LRAs).
In order to provide effective user support services, EKPA has cooperated with CRA
ABP to produce this user’s manual. This manual will contain information and
instructions for the use of the application, but also provides an analysis of
customization needs along with the description of the processes required for adding
on the application new monitoring features, based on the specific characteristics of
the application area (e.g. new monitoring objects such as new thematic layers, like,
for instance, vegetation types; new monitoring procedures, such as the use of aerial
photography, etc.). In the first part, the User Manual provides information on the use
of SMS application. In the second part a detailed section provides information for
each model related to soil monitoring and management.
The web application is linked with the project’s web portal, which is designed as a
facilitator of several other project activities, such as the internal communication of
project partners and the training application (e-course).
SMS database is based on GRASS GIS data structure, modified in order to
communicate with the web interface. All data are stored in a directory referred to as
a database located on the web server. This directory has to be created on the server
by the database administrator. Within this database, projects are organized by
project areas stored in subdirectories called locations. A location is defined by its
coordinate system, map projection and geographical boundaries. Each location can
have several mapsets.
Western Greece is a region located in the western part of mainland Greece. It includes the prefectures of Aetolia-Acarnania, Achaea, and Elis. The region features beautiful beaches along the Ionian Sea coastline as well as historic sites from ancient Greek times such as Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
Environmental Impact Assessment of Prototype Greenhouse Installation_draftAntonis Antoniou
Recent intensification of agriculture, and the prospects of future intensification, will have major impacts on the nonagricultural terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems of the world (Tilman, 1998). The doubling of agricultural food production during the past 35 years was associated with a 6.87-fold increase in nitrogen fertilization, a 3.48-fold increase in phosphorus fertilization, a 1.68-fold increase in the amount of irrigated cropland, and a 1.1-fold increase in land cultivation (Tilman, 1998).
Around half the EU's land is farmed. Farming is important for the EU's natural environment. Farming and nature influence each other (EC, 2012):
Farming has contributed over the centuries to creating and maintaining a unique countryside. Agricultural land management has been a positive force for the development of the rich variety of landscapes and habitats, including a mosaic of woodlands, wetlands, and extensive tracts of an open countryside.
The ecological integrity and the scenic value of landscapes make rural areas attractive for the establishment of enterprises, for places to live, and for the tourist and recreation businesses.
The links between the richness of the natural environment and farming practices are complex (EC, 2012). Many valuable habitats in Europe are maintained by extensive farming, and a wide range of wild species rely on this for their survival (EC, 2012). However, inappropriate agricultural practices and land use can also have an adverse impact on natural resources, such as (EC, 2012):
pollution of soil, water and air,
fragmentation of habitats and
loss of wildlife.
The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has identified three priority areas for action to protect and enhance the EU's rural heritage (EC, 2012):
Biodiversity and the preservation and development of 'natural' farming and forestry systems, and traditional agricultural landscapes;
Water management and use;
Dealing with climate change.
Subsystem Interoperation report of Prototype Greenhouse Installation Adapt2ch...Antonis Antoniou
Apart from energy cost minimization, through shallow geothermal energy exploitation water recycling can save up to 90% of greenhouse irrigation needs. Recycling water can reduce pressures on water resources, while providing high quality greenhouse agricultural products. Water recycling as a process is also linked to the control of environmental conditions within a greenhouse by balancing temperature and humidity.

NDVI.
