1. Now and then
I am constantly amazed with their way of life and all the effort they put into every day life and how
little they get in return – by today's standards.
They work all day long to get their food on the table and collaborate with each other to make
through. In the past there probably was no such thing as consumption, at least not in the same extent
as now.
Today we live in a totally different way. Society is all about economics, consumption and
efficiency. At work we are all interchangeable. We learn to live in a time where we constantly have
to compete, show off and elbowing our way forward – we want to become something.
The world today is not easy to live in. Sometimes, I tend to romanticize the past. In a way, their
way of living was less dramatic, more calm, tranquil and comforting. But when I think about it
twice I would never switch places. Far too much has changed, even more for the women. I could
never live as the contemporary woman I am. I could never study, travel around by myself or live in
different places in different parts of the world. But I can not help wonder how my life would have
been like if I was born in that time – what kind of person would I be?
