**Think Group Discussions**
A formal discussion, based on a text, in
which the leader asks open-ended
questions. Within the context of the
discussion, students listen closely to the
comments of others, thinking critically for
themselves, and articulate their own
thoughts and their responses to the
HOW DO WE HAVE OUR STUDENTS
USE SOCRATIC CIRCLE?
1. Read text to students.
2. Place students in a circle
3. Ask open ended questions
4. Allow students to open up to their peers in their group and share
their thoughts/ views.
-NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWERS
-THE GOAL IS FOR EVERYONE TO
PARTICIPATE
WHAT IS THE OUTCOME FOR
USING A SOCRATIC CIRCLE?
Open-ended questions allow students to:
Think critically
 Analyze multiple meanings in text
 Express ideas with clarity and confidence.
After all, a certain degree of emotional safety is felt by participants
when they understand that this format is based on dialogue and not
discussion/debate.
Remind students, This is NOT a debate
