Narrative Essay On Social Justice
I have to admit that this is a tough paper to write. Considering the two choices of Social Justice
and Sustainability, I was at a loss and I still am to a degree. In contemplating my involvement with
these topic choices there is none. There is no specific event that I can recall where I feel that I am
involved. I did do some fundraising with my co–workers. Can I consider that as my community for
this exercise? I was in charge of the fundraising events for 3 years for the office where I worked.
This was not something that my co–workers fully invested themselves in, but It was a good cause.
The events were fun and a good time was had by all. Once the events were over, it was back to
what was important to them. There is no judgement on my part as we all do the same. These
fundraisers were for an organization called Kids in Distress. A facility/home that looked like your

is done? I am not aware that anyone from the office ever continued to be involved, myself
included. Does this mean we have dropped the ball? Maybe, but there is more to the story. All of
the events were public auctions. We contacted customers and asked them for items. Cash would be
ok too, but we needed items for the auctions. Our customers were generous with diamond earrings,
5 pound bags of stone crab claws, old but professionally maintained arcade games, hand painted
silk blouses, leather jackets and other really nice things. We even got a visit from Ronald
McDonald. In the course of us asking our customers for donations we had to explain what the items

Social sciences and social justice are both based on the structure of rights. Our rights were
designed to create equality for all. However, there are always outliers in our justice system and
these outliers can be seen by all. My background and demographic are aggressively average
growing up in a small, rural community with little diversity which has affected my views about

Teachers mention the "real world" during class, but sometimes they fail to see that their students
do live in the real world. They have their own lives and go through a diverse amount of
experiences. When they mention the real world as if students did not live in the real world yet, it

Now when I think about it how could it not? Social justice takes a big part of my life and
experiences. Last year at around this time I had to write an essay that had to include some sort of
human rights issue. When writing I take on big topics; social justice topics are anything but simple.
Like with many of the essays I have written before in school, I wrote all of my ideas down on paper

Addams' concept of a settlement house coincided with the Industrial Revolution, a movement in

brought about a number of issues that Addams sought to rectify, including harsh working conditions

Everything I knew about my life had all been a lie. My husband was gay and he had molested our

Social justice refers to equality on a larger, group scale. Inequalities in society prevent true social
justice. The goal of social justice is to create a more just society by exploring our individual roles
and consciously recognizing the unjust structures around us, then taking action to alleviate or
eradicate those structures. Social justice is working toward social change. These inequalities can
be seen in instances of income disparity, sex or gender based prejudice, racial discrimination, and
lack of access to public goods and services like education or housing. One social justice issue

Research shows classrooms are becoming more inclusive and that including these students in general
education classrooms increases student achievement, self–confidence, and self–esteem, as well as
physical health maintenance and improved perception of their image by peers. (Rosenzweig, 2009,
p. 7) Despite this, studies indicate that teachers and staff are expected to accommodate students with
disabilities although training and staff development exercises are inadequate when compared to
teachers and faculty in special education departments. (Rosenzweig, 2009, p. 5) To combat this issue
and ensure inclusivity, general teachers need additional support, education, training, and experience.
School systems must accommodate these changes in the general education of our nation's instructors
on every level for students to reap the full benefits of inclusivity in educational settings. To help
address this issue, numerous organizations supply resources to families, students, facilities, and the
public in efforts to thwart the stigma associated with students with disabilities.
