- Hello, today I am going to be talking about Technology, relationships, and how they are connected and interact with one another.
- Cellphones are technology that broke into society with force and has since become a social norm within our society. It now seems almost weird for someone to have a cellphone. Cellphones have not only impacted adult society, but has broken into schools as well. Children as young as in grade 4 or 5 have access to cellphones, and use it regularly. It seems every kid in high school has a cellphone. It seems that cellphones & texting have become the main source of communication due to it being fast, easy, and reliable.
- The clip is a silent video of everyday people participating in society, however everyone is on their cellphone. I chose this clip because I felt it greatly established the point of the relationship people seem to have with their cellphones.
- Some common issues that relationships may face when cellphones become a source of argument are one feeling less important. Sometimes, when one partner is constantly paying attention to their phone, and not paying attention to their partner who is in the same room as them, they partner neglected may feel less important than the phone, and maybe feel unloved or insecure. Along with those insecurities comes mistrust. Some people may suspect their partner of spending so much time on their phone talking to another person, whom they may be interested in. Then again, it could be the total opposite, and the ideaiation of your partner talking to someone else could cause more stress than the actual issue itself. Lastly, with all the attention being spent on the cellphone, it leaves a gap for the needed intimate connection between the partners.
- Cellphones don’t only affect the relationship you may be in but could also affect any future relationships. An example is being on public transit, sitting on your cellphone. The time spent on your cellphone can be spent creating new relationships, people watching, or something more interactive with your surroundings. Also while on your cellphone, you are not fully aware of your environment. This can not only create danger, but also cause you to miss important details about certain things. This is why texting and driving is not legal. One major issue with todays youth is the inability to be social with one another. Anxiety rates are at an all time high, and todays youth are insistent on texting rather than speaking face-to-face, or over the phone. I can speak personally about this issue – being a youth in this generation, it is easy to become entranced in the addiction that is your cellphone. I had gotten to the point where a phone call would make me anxious because I didn’t want to talk over the phone. Thankfully, I’ve addressed these issues and am able to talk person to person no problem. Lastly, cellphones can create a dependency, an example – whenever there is an awkward situation that arises and you have no escape, often we turn to our cellphones and start swiping left and right to make it look like your busy.
- People who are so called addicted to their cellphone are more likely to slowly start becoming indifferent to the real world, getting attached to the meaningless approval of strangers online, and seeking validity from these strangers. Failing to see or interact with people that we know, losing connections to the real world and real people, and you start to depend on the virtual world that is inside the cellphone.
- Some heavy statistical information shows that 75% of women admit that devices are ruining their relationship, a quarter claim their partner has texted during an important face to face conversation, 35% claim that their partner has pulled out their phone mid-conversation if they receive a notification, and 62% of women say technology has interfered with the amount of time spent with their significant other.
- In conclusion, it is evident that cellphone are causing people to be disconnected with the real world, and real relationships, creating a sense of dependency, which causes issues with your partner. Over half the woman who were asked agree that technology is interfering with their relationship, and I lastly conclude that you can be addicted to your cellphone.
