John Wood took a vacation to Nepal to relieve stress from his job at Microsoft. While trekking, he came across a small school that had very few books for students. He collected over 1,000 books from friends and family to donate. This experience inspired him to write a book and start Room to Read, a non-profit that has provided books and opened libraries for over 10 million children. Scott Harrison used to work as a party promoter but quit to volunteer on a floating hospital. The poverty he witnessed inspired him to start Charity: Water to provide clean drinking water. Charity: Water has raised over $100 million to fund 8,000 water projects serving over 3 million people in 20 countries.
